Bodycam is finally here after being on the Steam Wishlist of over a million people. But the shooter is off to a bumpy start

The hype surrounding the ultra-realistic multiplayer shooterBodycamwas huge in the run-up. Over a million players had the game on their Steam wishlist.

Now the shooter with the unconventional first-person perspective is finally here and at least the player numbers are impressive Around 17,000 players are currently shooting their way through the almost photorealistic levels. But the start to Early Access is still bumpy

Bought assets and server problems: a bumpy start

Despite the initial enthusiasm, the Steam reviews look pretty mixed shortly after the launch: Only 64 percent of all players currently rate Bodycam positively

A common problem at the moment seems to be access to the game, as this relatively small indie title also relies on a Peer2Peer system instead of dedicated servers. If the host leaves the game, all other participants are also dropped from the game

The high demands of the graphics are also repeatedly criticized. The outstanding visual level of the trailers cannot be achieved even on high-end systems with maximized settings. However, it is precisely these graphics that are repeatedly praised – although it appears that many graphics assets were purchased directly from the Unreal Store.

Despite the mixed reviews, Bodycam, which comes from just two very young developers, offers some interesting approaches to gameplay. Classic modes such as Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are supplemented by the new Body Bomb mode, which is planned as a ranked mode in the medium term.

Despite the criticism, Bodycam seems to have potential and could improve significantly in the Early Access phase. If the technical problems are solved and the graphical promises are kept, nothing stands in the way of a successful future according to many users.

Until then, however, only those whose mouths are watering at the trailer embedded above should go for it. After all, it will probably be a while before the promised regular updates and patches bring the game closer to the original expectations.
