At PAX West, Gearbox showed artwork from Borderlands 4 for the first time and revealed the first details about the upcoming loot shooter
AfterBorderlands 4was officially announced at the Opening Night Live of gamescomthere is already more news about the upcoming loot shooter. While the first teaser trailer hardly gave any information about the game world, this is now changing. At its PAX presentation, Gearbox showed four interesting artworks that provide new insights into the game
More technology, but no high-tech
The four images are intended to illustrate the concept and direction of Borderlands 4 without giving too much away. The images show different locations from the game. However, it is not yet known what they are called or what role they might play. It is even possible that they will be heavily modified or completely removed from the game
Note also that these are drawings and not screenshots. The game will probably look completely different and follow the cel-shaded look of its predecessors.
Although the images appear very futuristic at first glance, it has already been confirmed that you will also encounter the post-apocalyptic regions that fans have come to love over the first three parts.
There are stylistic innovations: In this case, it means that technology will play a major role, but you shouldn’t expect or fear high-tech. What’s more, some of the technology is used differently than originally intended. It’s a typical post-apocalyptic world. So Borderlands dares to change, but probably doesn’t stray too far from its roots
It has also been confirmed that you will visit a new planet. Whether there will be more than one, as in Borderlands 3, remains to be seen. Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release in 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5
