Bram Stoker’s Dracula becomes a video game – on a 25-year-old handheld console

Have your Game Boy Color ready, because a new game in the spirit of Castlevania based on the quintessential Dracula story is coming soon.

If you have retro love in your heart and your old handhelds and consoles aren’t just gathering dust in the attic, there’s good news. For Nintendo’s Game Boy Color, Dracula: Dark Reign, an action-adventure game inspired by the Castlevania games, but with a game world based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

How does Dracula: Dark Reign play? In the 2D world, you maneuver through Dracula’s castle, using both melee and ranged weapons to dispose of skeletons, undead, and vampires.

What is the game about? You take on the role of Jonathan Harker, one of the most important characters from the original book. As in the book by Bram Stoker, the young lawyer tries to escape from Dracula’s captivity.

What is special about Dracula: Dark Reign? The game belongs to the StokerVerse. A descendant of the author manages the official licenses and markets them for comics, novels and video games.

This allows the game to feature alternate prologue to the novel which comes from Bram Stoker’s personal notes.

Release and price: Currently, the game is still in development and is scheduled to be released in2024 (The module with protective cover, stickers and other extras) should cost 60 US dollars (good 57 euros). In addition, there are taxes and shipping costs.

But there will also be a digital version for 15 US dollars. Developer Incube8 Games also already offers a (free demo for the game).
