Graphic designers have presented a concept for a Breaking Bad game. The demo uses the latest version of the Unreal Engine 5 and is strongly reminiscent of GTA.
Ever since Breaking Bad first aired on TV, fans have harboured a desire for a video game based on their beloved series. And with so many game adaptations having been released in recent years, it’s actually surprising that Breaking Bad hasn’t gotten one yet.
From the developer’s point of view, the series cosmos around the two drug chefs Walter White and Jesse Pinkman would be ideal for such a project. Firstly, of course, because the celebrated series already has a broad fan base, and secondly, because theGTA franchise has impressively proven for years that crime as the core theme of a game attracts people like flies.
Teaser shows what could be possible
This is apparently what the creative minds at (TeaserPlay), a team of graphic designers who are always presenting crazy teasers for as yet unrealised video games on Youtube, were thinking.
A few days ago, they shared a video on their channel in which they presented the concept of an open-world game based on Breaking Bad . The demo relies on the latest generation of the Unreal Engine, version 5.2, and brings the environment of Albuquerque, New Mexico to life quite realistically.
The whole bag of tricks of Unreal 5
In the video, the developers of TeaserPlay talk about which tools of the engine they used to transfer Walter White, his place of residence and the well-known mobile home into a virtual form in as much detail as possible.
Among other things, they used the lighting system Lumen, the character editor Metahuman and the efficient rendering technology Nanite. The team even gave the motorhome realistic driving physics. The result of this work is quite something to behold.
Too good to be true
Before you get excited: This game does not exist! It is only a technology demo for the Unreal Engine. The teaser shows a thought experiment of designers, how a Breaking Bad game could look like.
The video shows, however, that a Breaking Bad adaptation as a game would work well, at least graphically. However, the demo leaves it completely open how the gameplay could look in concrete terms.
It could be an open-world shooter like GTA 5. How much fun would it be to cross the desert of New Mexico with your own mobile metal lab or to negotiate deals with shady guys on the outskirts of Albuquerque.
Equally conceivable, however, would be a management simulation about the drug trade. Maybe the rights holder AMC will soon give us a corresponding game in the future.
What do you think: Would you like an open-world game in the world of Breaking Bad? Were you impressed by the tech demo from TeaserPlay? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
