After the postponement, it was quiet about the release date of Starfield, but now we have clarity: Bethesda’s role-playing game will be released in autumn!

In space, as we all know, nobody hears you scream, but at least here on Earth the wailing was very loud when Starfield was surprisingly postponed from 2022 to 2023. And after that it became dark in the galaxy: when would Bethesda’s role-playing epic be released? In the spring? In the summer? Or not at all?

In a brand new trailer, Bethesda chief developer Todd Howard finally gives a final answer: Starfield won’t be released until 2027.

Little joke, the thing is coming on September 6, 2023, so just in time for the start of the fall season in a few months. Cool, right?

If you want to shorten the wait, there’s another date you can ring in your calendar. On 11 June 2023 there will be a so-called Starfield Direct, a big livestream that promises you a detailed deep dive into the game and its development. An insider had recently claimed that Starfield should be released in June 2023 – well, just missed.

You can see the full announcement trailer here:

Is the release realistic?

Originally, Starfield was supposed to be released last fall, but Bethesda postponed the game to ensure a smooth release. A clear sign that the studio has learned from the problematic release of Fallout 76.

Based on the information we have so far, we think the planned release in autumn 2023 is quite realistic because a) Bethesda would otherwise have to cope with two Christmas sales in a row without strong game candidates aside from The Elder Scrolls Online and b) one year of additional development would have to be enough to get a game originally firmly scheduled for 2022 on track.

We already know a lot about the role-playing game, Bethesda keeps giving away snippets of info in videos or tweets. One insanely diligent Starfield fan has really written down every single known detail and packed it into a 400-page monstrosity. We’ve picked out a few particularly interesting pieces of information for you:

But what do you think? Are you excited like little space shreds or do you remain sceptical whether we have to expect another postponement? Will you use the time until the release to read up on everything about the Starfield universe or will you rather be surprised by all the details in the game? Write us your opinion!
