The developers of New Cycle explain in a new blog post how trading and exploration will work in the survival building game
Survival building games have been a new genre on the rise for some time now. After titles such as Surviving the Aftermath and Floodland, New Cycle will soon be exploring a post-apocalyptic setting. Before studio Core Engage’s debut game goes into Early Access on January 18, 2024, the developers explain the various elements of the game in a series of blog posts.
What is New Cycle about?
The gameplay trailer above gives you a first impression of the game. In New Cycle, a solar flare has caused the downfall of our civilization, leaving behind a destroyed world in which people are fighting for survival in small groups. You must build a city, take good care of its inhabitants and survive devastating environmental disasters
Trade is inevitable
The first devlog for Early Access is all about how you interact with other groups of survivors. Traders from other settlements who are also fighting for their survival will visit you again and again. They will then offer you various barter deals, there is no currency
What the traders offer and demand depends on the history of their respective settlement. Some of them have a surplus of valuable metals, for example, but lack food.
Further features will be added during Early Access. For example, there will be certain luxury goods that you cannot produce yourself and will have to trade instead. It will also be possible to enter into permanent trade agreements to ensure a reliable flow of the goods you need
Risks and opportunities of exploration
Trade is not the only way you interact with the outside world. You can also send out exploration parties and explore the regions around you. This is probably done via a kind of map view. You can also discover resources, encounter dangers and experience small stories
It will also be possible to build small outposts that contribute to your resource production. These outposts can be connected to your city by railroad lines. Later on, we will also meet other factions while exploring and establish diplomatic relations with them.
The developers plan to publish another devblog next week. It will deal with the transportation of resources and disasters
