Gameplay of Call of Duty: Vanguard from the PS5 alpha shows the parallels to Modern Warfare and makes it clear how the new Champion Hill mode works.
How much does CoD Vanguard’s multiplayer resemble 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare? Very strongly indeed, if we go by the gameplay of the new Champion Hill mode from the PS5 alpha.
Well-known YouTuber “Jackfrags” showed an entire game on his channel from Champion Hill, which works like a self-contained tournament of gunfight rounds. Here you can see the gameplay scenes:
Like Modern Warfare – with a WW2 twist
The obvious similarities start with the graphics, after all Call of Duty: Vanguard is based on the same engine (IW 8.0) that was first used in CoD: MW. The result is the typical dirty but high-quality look of 2019’s Call of Duty.
Purely visual aspects excluded: We also see that the movement model is strongly oriented towards Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare. And the gunplay and animations are also much closer to MW than they were in 2020’s CoD: Cold War.
The prop-up from Modern Warfare is back: But unlike in MW, players are now allowed to move sideways despite mount position, which allows for less static gameplay situations and could thus make the prop-up a versatile tactic.
Speaking of tactics: The tactical sprint from MW also returns in Vanguard. So in addition to the normal race, players can sprint extra fast for a short time. Fittingly, Call of Duty: Vanguard also offers the “Double Time” perk again.
And these are just some of the parallels to the multiplayer of CoD: MW that we noticed in the gameplay of Vanguard. We recommend fans of the penultimate CoD to watch the video by Jackfrags.
