CoH 3 is currently letting real-time strategy fans try it out for free on Steam. But not everyone is happy with the game.
With Company of Heroes 3, the next part of the well-known real-time strategy set in World War II will be released in February 2023. And if you’re a bit lucky, you can still get access to a technical test of the multiplayer until 13 January.
However, some of the participants don’t seem to be very happy with the game. In the Steam forums and on Reddit you can often read clear criticism.
What are the players criticising?
The displeasure relates to various aspects of the game. Mentioned again and again are: the too high (speed of matches), the graphic style of the strategy game, as well as its sound design. Players criticise that both are inferior compared to the predecessor – Company of Heroes 2:
☻
Especially handguns such as submachine guns are said to sound very unrealistic, but other sounds are not satisfactory either. With regard to the graphics, some claim that the graphics quality has decreased (compared to the predecessor) others criticise that CoH 3 seems less realistic and comic
. What exactly the cause is, the players are currently (not really agreed).
In parts, the criticism is also expressed in a rather unobjective and sweeping manner. (Some threads) in the Steam forum call the game abysmally bad, without further substantiating the statements.
Praise can also be heard
On the other hand, some players can also be heard clearly contradicting the negative portrayal. Thus ( writes one editor):
This will be an apparently unpopular opinion, but I really enjoyed the playtest. I almost didn’t try it out because of the (negative) posts here, but then quickly changed my mind when I played with a friend last night. Don’t take the internet as fact and try it out for yourself, you might be pleasantly surprised like me.
(Other users confirm) that they also had fun and couldn’t understand at least parts of the criticism or thought it was exaggerated. Some even consider CoH 3 to be (better than its predecessor).
Overall, it is difficult to assess how the strategy game will be received by the community on the basis of the individual opinions. Overall, only a comparatively small number of players are discussing it here, and a lot can still change before the game is released.
Our editorial strategist Fabiano (sees a lot of potential in Company of Heroes 3) after having played it extensively. At the same time, he s worried about the single player campaign.
Have you tried Company of Heroes 3 yet? Did you enjoy it or are you rather critical of the strategy game? Feel free to post your opinion in the comments!
