14 minutes of brand new, exciting content for Pokémon Crimson and Purple have been released in the latest trailer. We summarise everything for you.

Nintendo has released a longer trailer on Thursday, 06 October, which gives you brand new information about the upcoming Pokémon Editions Crimson and Purple. In it, you can see longer, unedited gameplay for the first time and exciting features that await the trainers.

The new Pokémon: Farigiraf

The inconspicuous 2nd generation pocket monster, Girafarig, gets an evolution in crimson and purple: Farigiraf. In the process, its main head and the head of its tail become one and it looks something like the Pokémon got a hood.

Farigiraf doesn”t get a new type combination with Normal/Psycho, but it does get two new abilities: Ruminate and Tail Armour. Both can be useful in competitive battles. Ruminate triggers the effect of a berry in two consecutive rounds and Tail Armour protects Farigiraf from first strike attacks such as Jerk Strike or Low Blow.

However, Girafarig”s evolution is not the only Pokémon that was seen in the trailer.

By mistake, 5 more Pokémon were shown in the trailer

According to this, the Japanese trailer differs from those here in the West. Because during a battle against the enemy troops of Team Star, a Pokémon is used that was not shown in Japan. It is a hitherto officially unknown pocket monster. In the Japanese video, only a Leufeo can be seen in the same place:

And also during the presentation of the new feature, the photo mode, we could spot a small, spider-like pocket monster. In Japan, the protagonist”s arm covered the unknown Pokémon:

Another 3 Pokémon could also be seen on the minimap here, but in Japan there is not a single icon to be found there. You can see two mouse-like pocket monsters, plus a bird and a mushroom:

New feature: The picnic

In Pokémon Sword and Shield you could already camp, pull out toys and cook curry. In X and Y, pet and feed your companions. Crimson and Purple brings all of this together in the new Picnic feature.

There you can call all your Pokémon out of the balls, play with them and even wash them. This increases your friendship with them and restores their HP. You can also collect recipes of sandwiches, prepare them and feed them to your pocket monsters. This not only restores CP, but also gives you useful bonuses such as EP increase, catch probability, increase of encounters with certain Pokémon types or type boosting.

All of this works not only in single player, but also in multiplayer with up to three other trainers:inside.

Crafting comes back – with the TM machine

TM is the abbreviation for Technical Machine and enables you to teach your Pokémon new attacks. You can only use a TM once in crimson and purple and must then find or create a new one.

You can use the TM machine to craft a TM. To craft a TM, you need to collect materials that wild Pokémon drop. You also need League Points (LP for short), which you can get during the course of the story or exchange for materials.

Another new feature: the photo mode

Pokémon Snap sends its regards, because now you can take photos of the surroundings or selfies with your pocket monsters at any time during a picnic or on the go. Selfies can be taken as profile photos and are visible to other players. Furthermore, the photos can be edited and various filters can be used to make them more beautiful.

This new feature is also available in both single and multiplayer

Other minor details announced

Besides that, there are more things that Nintendo named and showed in the trailer:

  • Teracrystallised Pokémon can appear not only in Raids but also in the wild and are catchable.
  • The Tera type of the respective pocket monster is displayed in the profile. All Pokémon can only ever have one of the 18 possible types, but each of them can have every possible type. What exactly determines which type the Pokémon has is not yet known.
  • The EP divider is back and distributes experience points evenly among the team after battles and captured Pokémon.
  • Various customisation options for the trainers. Especially in the face and hair.
  • The minimap is similar to the one in Pokémon: Legends Arceus. You can set your own signposts and follow them so you don”t lose track of where you are.
