TheMedieval TarkovDark and Darkeris back on Steam after a long absence and comes with an exciting new feature: It’s now free to play!

The game was removed from the platform over a year ago due to legal issuesbut the developers didn’t give up and are now celebrating its comeback after this turbulent time.

Dark and Darker celebrates its return to Steam

It was announced earlier this week that Dark and Darker will be introducing a Free2Play mode. And the big question of whether the game will return to Steam has finally been answered –Here’s the game on Steam The announcement was made at the Summer Game Fest 2024, where a new trailer was also presented, which you can see here:

There is a catch, however: The free accounts are limited to creating a character and playing the normal maps. If you want to enjoy the full gaming experience, including the tough high-roller dungeons, you have to buy the so-called Legendary status

Players who have already purchased the Standard or Founders Edition via the Blacksmith Launcher will automatically be upgraded to this version. A cross-progression function will also be implemented in a few days so that you don’t have to buy the game again to play it in full on Steam

The game mechanics remain the same in both versions: As a first-person PvPvE dungeon crawler, you fight your way through hordes of monsters alone or in a team and collect treasures to bring them safely to light. However, if you die, you lose everything – including the equipment you set out with.

The Free2Play return on Steam is already being received enthusiastically and the number of players is steadily increasing: As of Saturday night, Dark and Darker already has over 20,000 active players and the number continues to rise. The game had a huge player base and six-figure player numbers during the first Steam betas. Now it remains to be seen whether the new free-to-play version can repeat this success.
