The developers of Nazralath want to mix the principle of Dark Souls with the gameplay and story depth of one of the best role-playing games of all time.

The small developer team Euclidean Studios from Belgrade has set itself the task of reviving “design virtues of classic role-playing games that have been forgotten over time” with its debut work Nazralath: The Fallen World.

Apparently borrowing heavily from Dark Souls, the action RPG aims to revisit the mechanics of those favourite games they grew up with and weave them together with the storytelling of H.P. Lovecraft and the macabre style of Polish painter Zdzisław Beksiński.

One of those favourite games whose influence is prominently advertised on the (official site) is Planescape: Torment. The first game scenes in the announcement trailer remain vague, however, so that only the Souls reference remains clear for the time being.

The story is the focus

While the Unreal Engine delivers the opulent images, which alone should ensure a dense atmosphere, the focus is clearly on the story according to the developers. This should not only be grippingly staged, but also offer the one or other branch-off that puts the further course in your hands.

Exploring the environments is also supposed to be a key aspect of the gameplay, but it is noticeable that the term “open world” is not mentioned anywhere, which means that the title is unlikely to compete with the top dog Elden Ring.

Instead, the studio sees its work as an unmistakable and fresh new interpretation of the role-playing game genre, but also describes it as an action-adventure with RPG elements in places. We will of course report on the game behind this announcement as soon as the facts become clearer.

Meanwhile, it is known that Nazralath will probably be released exclusively for the PC and a corresponding Steam page is already being prepared. Whether it will also be available on other sales platforms is something the developers have not yet revealed, nor has the release date been set.
