Pre-orderers of Diablo 2 Resurrected will be able to play from 13 August. The Open Beta for everyone starts on 20 August and will be delightfully extensive.
After an initial leak in the Microsoft Store about the Diablo 2: Resurrected Beta, it is now official: pre-orderers will be able to play the remaster themselves for the first time as early as 13 August 2021. The first phase will begin at 7 pm on PC and consoles – with the exception of the Nintendo Switch.
All pre-orderers of the regular edition or the Prime Evil Collection can take part in the Early Access phase. Seven days later, all other players will be able to take a first look at the revamped version of the classic: Starting on 20 August at 7 pm, an open beta weekend will take place.
The official release date is still 23 September 2021. Those who are not yet sure whether the remaster is worth it can therefore use the open beta for a first impression. Publisher Activision Blizzard emphasises in the official blog post that the game is still in development. The game content is therefore still subject to change
What can you expect in the beta?
In addition to new classes, the multiplayer mode will also be unlocked for everyone. Not all acts will be available during the beta, but only Act 1: “The Hidden Eye” and Act 2: “The Secret of Vizjerei”. While only three classes were available in the first alpha phases, there will be a total of five during the beta. New additions are:
Druid: The nomadic people from the untamed region of Scosglen. Druids abandon their humanity and unleash their ferocity to survive and triumph in battle.
Paladin: Paladins originate from the western lands and are knights of the faith. They use sacred magic in battle against the servants of Hell.
Paladin
Druid
Not included are the Assassin and Necromancer, which came in first place in our most popular classes poll. Both classes will thus only be playable at release.
Details on multiplayer: Multiplayer mode and cross-platform progression will be available on both test weekends. Up to eight players can then go hunting for loot together.
Not only the experience between the players will be scaled, but also the hit points of monsters and the number of dropped items. The PvP mode will also be available on both weekends of the open beta.
New cutscenes: The completely revamped cutscenes for Act 1 and Act 2 will be available for all to see for the first time in the Open Beta.
War paint from Diablo 3 returns: All players who pre-purchased Diablo 2: Resurrected and currently own Diablo 3 will be able to immediately unlock the Diablo 2 style Heir of Arreat transmogrification set for the Barbarian. So if you don’t want to miss the blue war paint from Diablo 3, you can use it directly in Diablo 2.
