Capcom unveils new series instalment Dragon’s Dogma 2. We’ve got all the known info on the role-playing game for you.
Ten years is a long time. Fans of the action role-playing game Dragon’s Dogma can confirm this. They had to be patient for a whole decade until they finally got a proper sequel. Now, however, Capcom has come to its senses and officially announced Dragon’s Dogma 2.
A suitable stage was chosen for the game’s unveiling. And what occasion could be more ideal for the reveal than the 10th anniversary livestream? In it, series creator Hideaki Itsuno dropped the bombshell at the very end (to be seen from minute 11:30):
But what do we already know about Dragon’s Dogma 2? Spoiler: Not much. Because apart from this very passionate announcement on the part of the developers, information about the game was mostly scarce. However, we were able to gather a few snippets.
All known info about Dragon’s Dogma 2
First of all, let’s throw the elephant out of the room so that fans don’t get their hopes up: No, nothing has been said about a release date. That it won’t be this year was to be expected. Whether Dragon’s Dogma will be released in 2023 is also impossible to say at the moment.
But the game is likely to be pretty. One of Capcom’s official announcements reveals that the development team will be using the company’s own RE Engine. This name should sound familiar, because this engine has powered both Monster Hunter Rise and the Resident Evil games since the seventh part. So the chances are good that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will not be a flop, at least visually.
Not for children? Originally, you could also see a writing at the end of the stream that said Dragon’s Dogma 2 is currently being reviewed by the ESRB – the equivalent of the USK in the US and Canada – and they currently expect to give it a 17+ age rating. This indicates that the game is unlikely to be squeamish about the depiction of violence.
Is it worth catching up with the first edition?
Those who are now hearing about the franchise for the first time might possibly be interested in the predecessor in order to ideally prepare themselves for Dragon’s Dogma 2. Dragon’s Dogma was first released for the PC in 2016 with the name Dark Arisen in a technically modernised version that was expanded with additional content.
In the meantime, there was even an MMO spin-off with Dragon’s Dogma Online, but its lifespan only extended from 2015 to 2019 before the servers were switched offline again. You can also get a taste of the games’ fantasy world on Netflix by watching the (official anime).
This puts Dragon’s Dogma in good company. Because a whole series of series and even films based on video games will appear on Netflix in the future.
