The fantastic D&D film from 2023 is to be followed by a TV series. More than a year after the announcement, there is now a promising update

Most movie fans probably agree on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves didn’t deserve to flop so hard. Despite fantastic reviews from the press and viewers, the film made shockingly little money in the 2023 cinema year.

Nevertheless, there is hope that Dungeons & Dragons will be continued. And not only that: a TV series is also planned! This was announced back in January 2023, but since then the project has been suspiciously quiet.

Only now – more than a year later – is there finally a promising update on the planned D&D series. As ComicBook reports, rights holder Hasbro has commented on the project in a new investor conference

The D&D series is still to come

According to Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks, there is still great confidence in the D&D brand, which is why existing plans for it will definitely be pursued further – the TV series is explicitly mentioned:

We continue to have a solid entertainment division in terms of Dungeons & Dragons, for which we are working with various partners. First and foremost, the new streaming TV series from Paramount, which is a joint collaboration.

So there you have it: it looks like fans of Dungeons & Dragons can continue to look forward to the planned TV series. However, there are still not too many details about the project.

What we do know so far: The D&D series is being developed by showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed), is set to include a total of eight episodes and will land on streaming service Paramount+. There was previously speculation that the series would round off or complement the feature film – but this has not yet been officially confirmed.

What else is happening at D&D

Apart from Crevello’s project, at least two other Dungeons & Dragons series are in the works: Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Justice League) was going to do a Dragonlance series, but it was canceled. Derek Kolstad (Nobody, John Wick) was also working on an Underdark project, the current status of which is unknown.

The fact that Hasbro sold its entertainment division eOne to Lionsgate in 2023 naturally complicates the situation a little.

Meanwhile, what about Dungeons & Dragons 2?  Paramount boss Brian Robbins and lead actor Chris Pine raised hopes for a movie sequel despite the meagre box office result.

How much did you like Dungeons & Dragons? Would you be happy about a movie sequel to Honor Among Thieves or could you do without it with a clear conscience?
