Dungeons & Dragons unveils further plans: New rulebooks for Baldur’s Gate and more announced

At the D&D Direct there were several exciting announcements for pen & paper fans. The beta of the 3D program Project Sigil will start in autumn, more rulebooks are coming and more

It’s not just video game development studios that share their future plans in livestreams. Dungeons & Dragons also holds such virtual events with the D&D Direct. The latest edition on August 27, 2024 featured several interesting reveals –Fans of Baldur’s Gate in particular will be delighted.

Those who like to play virtual tabletop games and value chic presentation, including 3D character models and environments, can also try out a new VTT tool this fall. We summarize all the important information for you. Do you have twenty minutes to spare? Then watch the whole stream here:

New books

The new Core Rulebook in German:On September 17, 2024, a new version of the ten-year-old 5th Edition Core Rulebook will be published. Among other things, all classes will be revised,we have summarized the most important changes here. At the D&D Direct, there was now confirmation that a German (as well as French, Spanish and Italian) edition is also currently being worked on.

Dungeon Master Guide and Monster Manual: These basic rulebooks are also being reissued, with many new magic items and creatures. They are to be published “in the coming months.”

  • The Forgotten Realms Player Guide:New subclasses, backgrounds, talents and so on for characters originating from the Forgotten Realms. For example, new info for the Harper and Zhentarim factions you know from Baldur’s Gate 3!
  • The Forgotten Realms Adventure Guide:This contains new information and hooks for adventures in familiar locations. For example, the city of Baldur’s Gate or the Icewind Vale.

New info on Project Sigil (Virtual Tabletop)

Project Sigil is a 3D sandbox with which you can realize Dungeons & Dragons, but also other role-playing games. The virtual tabletop tool allows you to create your own models and build suitable levels. Pre-made figures (including characters from Baldur’s Gate 3) are also included.

It will probably be enough if your game master registers, when you register you will receive five additional participation codes that you can distribute to friends. Sigil will initially be available exclusively on PC, but will later also migrate to consoles and mobile platforms.

The announced books will all be published as physical editions, but will of course also be available digitally via D&D Beyond and similar platforms. Please note that you will need the digital versions to activate them on D&D Beyond!
