The death loop bug prevents players from progressing in the story. A fix should soon fix the savegames.
Update as of Feb 16, 2022, 3:13pm: That was fast! After we first reported on the consequences of the death loop bug this morning, the fix promised by Techland is now already available.
In addition to fixing the bug, which we explain in more detail in the original message below, the rollback system will also be integrated, with which already damaged savegames can be reset to an earlier story progress.
And since all good things come in threes, you can now also freely assign the buttons for blocking, active landing and jump attack.

Original post: Dying Light 2 is not only full of zombies, but also has to deal with some bugs. While most of these bugs are not serious, one problem is so fatal that developer Techland even felt compelled to issue an official statement.
The death loop bug has spoiled the fun for many players. Once you fall into the clutches of this bug, you can no longer progress in the story. We explain to you what exactly the problem is, and what Techland wants to do about it.
You can’t get in here (anymore)
During the main storyline of Dying Light 2, you will visit some areas that can only be entered temporarily until the purpose of the location has been fulfilled in terms of the plot. After that, these places are sealed off from the game forever.
The problem is therefore simple and at the same time annoying: if players were kicked out of these areas for some reason, they could not be entered afterwards. As a result, one could not continue playing the storyline, and the savegame becomes more or less unusable.
Triggers for this bug documented by Dying Light players included quitting the game while the quest transfer cutscene was running. The bug could also occur in a co-op session if the guest logged out within one of the timed areas while the host continued playing.
That is why Techland is now also reacting outside of the planned patches with a detailed statement via Twitter. Because of course such a problem must be fixed as quickly as possible – and it already is.
Survivors! We hear you: death-loop bug is a serious problem we know of and we do everything to solve this issue ASAP. Thank you for your patience and feedback! pic.twitter.com/ehWat4zGWM

Savegames to be saved by rollback tool
As the Polish studio explains, the death loop bug has already been fixed with patches 1.0.4 and 1.0.5, but of course the already corrupted savegames must also be repaired. A corresponding fix is being worked on.
They are also planning to introduce a backup save functionality that will allow players to jump back to the most important story decisions and continue playing from there. This would mean that those affected by the death loop bug would have to accept a certain loss of progress, but would be able to continue their adventure.
If you are also a victim of the death loop bug, Techland still asks for your active help to permanently track down the problem. You can contact the studio’s (Support Department) for this purpose.
