Upcoming Updates

On Twitter, the developers announced that the release of the first story DLC will be delayed. According to Techland, the add-on, which was planned for June, will be released between September and November of this year.

Dear pilgrims, your feedback is always a top priority for us and we want to be honest and transparent with you. We will need a little more time to develop the first story DLC. It is now scheduled for release in September.

However, in June we will be launching the first chapter of the game called “On the Trail of a Nightrunner†which will be filled with content and events as well as the highly anticipated photo mode. So stay tuned for more action in The City!”

To pass the time, however, the developers have more content planned for the summer, including new missions, assignments, rings and more. Update 1.4 is likely to come soon with a survival mode.

The schedule until June 2022

  • On February 4, 2022, Dying Light 2: Stay Human (completed), the USK-18 title, will be released on consoles. It’s a different story for the PC version, though.

February 2022: Free DLC (completed)

  • Just a few weeks after its release, the first free DLCs were released, based on the game’s two factions: Peacekeepers and Survivors. The Authority Pack was released in the week beginning 14 February, and the Samurai DLC on 21 February.

March 2022: Parkour Challenges (Completed)

  • A first set of new freerunning challenges has been announced for this month. These are additional activities that you can perform in the open world to unlock rewards and achievements. In total, there are 5 new challenges that will be available in The City from 17 March. The trailer gives a taste:

April 2022: Events and NewGame+ (completed)

    • In April, the first event series “Mutated Infected” starts. Already in the first part, so-called community events took place at regular intervals, during which new weapons or Equ.

May 2022: Challenges and additional modes

Those hoping for even more open-world activities won’t have to wait much longer. The second set of new challenges will be released in May. The lead designer also revealed that a kind of survival mode will come with patch 1.4.

June – August 2022: Chapter 1: In the Footsteps of a Nightrunner

    • To bridge the time until the first story DLC, the developers are planning to add some new features, such as the photo mode and other community events. Playful content is also planned and will be called Chapter 1: In The Footsteps of a Nightrunner. This will include a new ranking system, more missions and tasks, rewards and even new enemies.

September – November 2022: Story DLC, Chapter 2

    • The first major story DLC will be released a little later in the autumn. Unlike the other content, this will be available for a fee. However, if you buy the Deluxe Edition of Dying Light 2, you will also get this story DLC for free. The Ultimate Edition also includes the second story DLC, for which there is no release date yet.

In addition, the second chapter of the Nightrunner content will also be released during this period. This will also include a new agent and rank system, missions and assignments, as well as more new enemy types.

What happens with Dying Light 2 afterwards?

The developers have still not revealed any concrete information about the big DLCs. In a (interview with PCGamesN)  however, lead designer Tymon Smektala hinted that fans should be prepared for interesting and extensive content.

In terms of scope, one should expect a similar scale as in the first Dying Light. Smektala goes on to say that players will enter new environments that will offer entirely new challenges. After all, even the fresh locations will still be overrun with zombies.

Expect the unexpected: Smektala also used this phrase. The aim is to surprise the fans and build up an attitude of expectation among them, so that they ask themselves the question: What are the developers planning to do next? New content should not feel generic or formulaic, but genuinely surprising and new.â

Fan theories are still wrong so far: In this context, Smektala also addresses the numerous speculations of fans that are floating around on the internet. There is a lot of talk about what will happen next, what kind of DLC the team will release. But no one has correctly guessed what they’re going to do yet.
What they weren’t planning on doing was pissing off the fans. Unfortunately, they recently did, as they made some controversial changes to the balance of the game.

Along with the post-launch roadmap, the developers have at least given a fairly rough outlook of upcoming content to follow over the next five years:

    • Second paid story DLC
    • New weapons
    • New enemies
    • New Stories
    • New Events
    • New free and paid DLCs

Crossplay for the multiplayer mode is not yet available at release. However, the developers already have this on their radar and want to focus on it after the launch,( as lead designer Tymon Smektala announced in a tweet ).
