The free multiplayer shooter Frontlines meets with a lot of enthusiasm. Especially CoD fans are heavily enthusiastic about some features
The new Call of Duty has taken a lot of criticism since its release: technical problems, unpopular design decisions, missing features and more caused the displeasure of numerous players around Modern Warfare 2.
Then, completely unexpectedly, a free shooter appeared a few weeks ago, which some well-known YouTubers are already reporting about. Frontlines is supposed to be even better than CoD in some respects. What is it all about?
What is Frontlines?
Frontlines is a first-person multiplayer shooter that can be played through the Roblox gaming platform. If you’ve never heard of Roblox, it’s actually just a framework for all kinds of games that are created by the users.
Frontlines was created by a small team of five developers and offers a similar experience to a classic CoD: You fight on rather smaller maps in modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination or Kill Confirmed. As in the big shooter role model, there are two teams with six players each.
Furthermore, you can unlock various skills while playing, such as running silently or replenishing your health after a kill.
You can also unlock a small number of new weapons and customise them with modifications. You can see gameplay here:
Who reports on this?
Since Frontlines was released on 22 February 2023, several major YouTubers have taken notice of the game. Among others, the channel (LevelCapGaming), shooter expert (Jackfrags) and the German YouTuber (HapticRush) have already published videos about the shooter. They all react with surprise to how well Frontlines looks and plays.
The (FaZe Jev) who thinks Frontlines is a better multiplayer experience than Modern Warfare 2
was particularly enthusiastic. Many design and gameplay choices make more sense in his opinion.
For example, FaZe is happy about the classic minimap and the possibility to vote on the next map. But he also really likes the maps themselves, as they remind him of the old days:
I love how arcady these maps are. They feel like they were designed with flow in mind. It feels quite unironically like the old Call of Duty.
FaZe Jev has been playing CoD professionally for many years, joining the FaZe clan in 2014, where he is primarily considered a sniper pro. His own YouTube account has over 5 million subscribers.
Not all YouTubers are as enthusiastic as he is. Even though they all like Frontlines, they notice that the gameplay was only developed by a small team The grind needed to unlock new weapons is also criticised. What do you think of Frontlines? Would you like to try it out for yourselves? Feel free to post it in the comments!
