A small tactic change makes your defenders much better in EA FC 24 – first players are already calling for a nerf because the trick is said to border on cheating.
Have you got problems with defending in EA Sports FC 24? The AI defenders just stand around passively while the other player plays you dizzy? Then here’s the solution!
On (Reddit) a player has revealed how, with just a small change in tactics, you can get your players to play much more effective pressing.
71 Defensive Depth is the secret to an active defence

This makes defending much easier
The key is in the Defensive Depth setting: when this is set to 71 or higher, the team’s AI begins to defend more offensively, tracking opponents’ runs and closing down space effectively. Remarkably, players do not lose any noticeable stamina in the first half, a crucial advantage in the intense competition of the game.
We have tried this tactic setting in around 10 games and can confirm that a depth of 71 actually makes a huge difference and our AI defenders act much smarter and more active straight away. Not only does it make defending more effective, it also makes it more fun!
The comments on Reddit also confirm this. Some players even demand that this tactic setting ( must be toned down by EA as quickly as possible), as it almost borders on cheating.
However, there are also two little catches:
- With all the pressing your players will lose stamina faster, towards the end of the second half it often becomes critical. If you have players with low stamina in your team, you should have substitutes ready for them.
- Pressing opens up a lot of spaces when your opponent long passes from one side of the pitch to the other, as the AI defenders overload the side with the player with the ball. To counteract this, you have to quickly switch players with the right stick and close the spaces manually.
When you take these two things into account, many players will be overwhelmed by your active defence, while you can (hopefully) keep dribbling out the opponent’s passive defenders. And should he or she rely on the same tactics, you know how to break them down with crosses.
