Leveling up in Elden Ring requires a lot of runes. How convenient that there’s a place where you can collect more than enough of them without having to be on your PC!
Those who meet their end again and again in Elden Ring will eventually come to the conclusion: I have to level up! The only problem is that you need runes to do this – the higher your level, the more runes you need to level up. So it would be super handy if there was a way to get lots of runes without a lot of work.
There’s a trick that will allow you to do just that! The good news is that once you get the hang of it, you don’t even have to be on your PC to farm (almost) endlessly for thousands of runes. The bad news is that you will have to do some preliminary work. But don’t worry, we’ll explain in detail what you need to do.
How to farm runes in your sleep
Step 1 – Defeat the boss Radahn
Yes, you will unfortunately not be spared a boss fight. Because only if you have sent Radahn to the mat, you can enter the dungeon in which the farm trick works. The boss deals out a lot, and on top of that you have to face him apparently without help in an open field.

Step 2 – Get the golden scarab
This step is rather optional, but it will still help you maximise your rune yield. The golden scarab grants you a bonus of almost 20 percent on all runes gained by defeating enemies, which increases your yield in a simple way.
Where can I find the golden scarab? An item that increases our runes won’t just lie around on the next tree. As in the first step, you can’t avoid a crunchy fight here either.
Go to the Abandoned Cave in Caelid, the exact location can be found in the picture above. Two particularly strong knights are waiting for you there, whom you have to defeat. As a reward you will then receive the golden scarab.
Step 3 – Go to the War-Dead Catacombs
Radahn is defeated, the golden scarab is in your possession – finally the rune farming can begin! To do so, go to the north-east of Caelid, to the War-Dead Catacombs. You’ll find the entrance right at the seashore, it’s hard to miss.
Bend your way down the stairs into the catacombs and you’ll see ghostly warriors engaged in a fierce battle from afar. Don’t even interfere in the slaughter, but carefully walk around the left side and go down a short flight of stairs to guide the ghost fighters into the back corner.
Then run back up the stairs. The upper part of the room should now be free of enemies. Take the left staircase up and just stand at its end to benefit from what is happening below you.
For the ghosts are fighting the human soldiers, who constantly spawn anew and immediately join the battle with their swords drawn. And who collects the runes as soon as an enemy perishes? That’s right: you!

This method allows you to farm thousands of runes in just a few minutes, even without the need to sit at your PC.
However, there is a catch: Every now and then, the respawning knights may see you and attack, or the fight may have moved to a corner that is too far away from the spawn position. In this case, the knights will remain in place and you will have to restart the fight between the two parties.
A fight between two parties, that sounds a lot like PvP. This aspect of Elden Ring could possibly be expanded in the future in the form of spectacular arenas in which you can fight each other like gladiators. You can find all the information about this in the article above.
