After 18 years, the Xbox 360 Store is shutting down. But fortunately, you won’t have to worry about your purchased games.

The time of almost every game (except maybe Skyrim) is over at some point: multiplayer servers are shut down, the supply of updates is stopped and the title disappears from shop shelves and sometimes shops.

Now it seems that the time has also come for quite a few Xbox games: The Xbox 360 Store is closing its doors next year, making it more difficult or even impossible for many gamers to make a new purchase.

What will happen to the Store?

As announced on the official (Xbox website) the Xbox 360 Marketplace will close its doors forever on 29 July 2024, after more than 18 years. From then on, it will no longer be possible to purchase new games, expansions or other content there. In addition, the Microsoft Movies & TV app will also no longer work on the Xbox 360.

This means it will no longer be possible to purchase a variety of games easily or at all. Only about (600 of over 2,000 games) for the Xbox 360, which are also compatible with the consoles of younger generations, can still be purchased via their stores. By the way, we show you what new games are currently available for PC and consoles here:

What about my games?

You don’t have to worry about games, expansions or films you’ve already bought. You can continue to play them and also download them again if you have uninstalled them. Microsoft says it will continue to support gaming on the Xbox 360 for the foreseeable future.

Multiplayer games will also continue to work regardless of the closure of the store. Here, everything depends on the respective publisher who operates the servers.

Content purchased in the Movies & TV app will remain in your library and can still be watched if you install the app on a PC with Windows 10 or 11, an Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S.

Have you played at the time of the Xbox 360? What was your favourite game back then and what are your best memories of the titles from the 2000s? Is your Xbox from back then (if you own one) gathering dust in the attic, or do you even still play with the old console from time to time?
