The multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves loses its console exclusivity after six years and attracts lots of new buccaneers
In a few days, the pirate game Sea of Thieves will be 6 years old. And just one month later, on April 30, 2024, there will be another reason for many players to celebrate: on this day, the previously console-exclusive title will also land on the PlayStation. And it already looks like there will be a lot of pirates at sea
Like hot cakes
Not only in this country, but also in France, the United Kingdom and the USA Sea of Thieves is currently dominating PlayStation pre-orders. In all regions, the pirate multiplayer game is the most pre-ordered game ahead of titles such as Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection and the Elden Ring expansion. The Premium Edition, which can be played from April 25, is always in first place.
Although there are no absolute figures for sales on the PlayStation, interest in Sea of Thieves is probably quite high. There should therefore be a major surge in players for the release in April. Currently, around 10,000 pirates are still playing on Steamat the same time. In addition, of course, there are also players on Xbox and Game Pass
The announcement of the PlayStation release of Sea of Thieves followed a discussion about Xbox rumors. It was falsely claimed that major exclusives such as Starfield would soon be coming to Sony’s console. In fact, however, as Microsoft later clarified, initially only three smaller titles will be released for the PlayStation alongside Sea of Thieves. Games such as Starfield and Indiana Jones: The Great Circle, on the other hand, will remain console-exclusive.
