A romantic act (Playing together forever): nerdy marriage proposal via playing card makes hearts melt on the internet

A romantic action causes enthusiasm: Someone has incorporated an unusual marriage proposal into their game night.

Many people find wonderful friendships through nerdy hobbies like video or board games. And sometimes even the love of their life! Such a story is currently sparking a lot of enthusiasm in the board game community, which is celebrating the creative and incredibly romantic marriage proposal of a member.

“Love conquers all”: With a playing card to engagement

Board game fan Nate secretly replaced a card from the board game Wingspan with a homemade one.

The card shows two cuddling penguins and instead of the usual instructions for playing, it says the following:

Nate & Sam
Omnia Vincit Amor [Latin for “Love conquers all”]
If activated, agree to marry the player across from you. Then continue playing board games together for the rest of your lives

Nate then smuggled the card into the hand of his now-fiancée Sam – who said yes and shared the story with her board game community on Facebook. The BoardGameGeek group (with over 270,000 members) responded with a lot of love and enthusiasm in the comments. Jonathan Mark Roudebush writes:

Nate really makes it difficult for the rest of us to hold a candle to him. But this is really sweet, congratulations guys!

Of course, some people are also asking about Nate’s method because they are now inspired by it themselves. Sam writes that he used the website Board Games Maker to order the card and designed it himself using Photoshop.

On the pen and paper front, too, there is already a strong contender for the nerdiest marriage proposal in 2025: someone has purchased a giant D20 with a hidden ring compartment.
