The hardcore shooter Escape from Tarkov relies on DLSS to improve performance. Players get hope for more FPS.

Will Escape from Tarkov run more smoothly soon? Performance, along with the netcode, is still one of the biggest points of criticism among players. While variable frame rates despite strong PCs are not unusual for an Early Access game, hardly anyone would complain about more FPS.

Developer Battlestate Games and graphics card manufacturer (Nvidia) have now announced the imminent implementation of DLSS, the RTX-exclusive upscaling technology that brings significantly increased FPS rates in several current games – with image quality that is often unchanged or almost indistinguishable from the native rendering.

So the hope among gamers is alive that the successful hardcore shooter will also run properly smoothly soon. When exactly the DLSS feature will appear has not yet been communicated. But according to Battlestate Games it should be soon. Here you can see the new trailer for the DLSS announcement for Escape from Tarkov:

Why this is good news

The AI-assisted upscaling technique DLSS uses the tensor cores of Nvidia’s RTX graphics cards. So owners of a 2000 or 3000 series Nvidia graphics card will soon be able to enable DLSS in Escape from Tarkov and benefit from increased frame rates.

And many players have been longing for this for a long time: The Unity game with its huge maps, numerous dynamic interactions and high level of detail has been struggling with changeable frame rates since the Early Access release. Developer Battlestate Games has been working and communicating tirelessly, but they haven’t quite been able to get to grips with the technical problems.

A powerful FPS boost thanks to DLSS could be just the right thing. Players on social media are hopeful that the nerve-racking performance factor in Escape from Tarkov, which is not exactly reassuring anyway, could soon be a thing of the past.

The game has been steadily approaching completion for years. Most recently, Lighthouse, the eighth of the planned twelve maps, was released, which caused a huge rush of players:

What is technically missing then

Escape from Tarkov is growing and growing in popularity, this was shown again at the release of the new map. Shortly after, Battlestate Games had to set up server queues to manage the influx of players. Improvements to the server infrastructure are thus urgently needed in Tarkov.

In addition, the first-person shooter has been struggling with problems with the netcode since its Early Access release, which can sometimes manifest itself in lags and rubberbanding, sometimes in inaccurate hit detection. So here, too, there is still technical work to be done. Some of this can probably only be completed when the game is complete one day and is released as version 1.0.
