Fallout 4 almost photorealistic? This is how good the post-apocalypse looks in Unreal Engine 5

A fan shows a wasteland settlement in Unreal Engine 5 on YouTube. The images impress with numerous details and realistic-looking graphics.

At the moment, the most graphically impressive images, graphics demos and games almost always come from Unreal Engine 5. Just recently, we were able to admire a city from Skyrim in magnificent visuals. But even Fallout 4 can be made to shine in new splendour and look really impressive with the game engine, as a YouTube video now proves.

Bordering on photorealism

The video comes from a level designer who regularly presents self-created scenes in the Unreal Engine on his YouTube channel. In addition to medieval villages, tropical islands and sci-fi cities, Ghost Design also repeatedly builds post-apocalyptic landscapes. Most recently, he created a settlement in the style of Fallout 4. Unfortunately, due to a render error, we can only admire it as screenshots:

The images of the Fallout settlement are convincing with their detailed and high-resolution textures, as well as the impressive lighting effects and seem almost photo-realistic in some places and image sections. The assets also look for the most part as if they came directly from a graphically significantly improved version of Fallout 4.

If you don”t remember what the settlements and general graphics of Fallout 4 looked like at the time, you can watch this video for comparison:

A Fallout with Unreal Engine 5 graphics will of course most likely remain a pipe dream for the foreseeable future. After all, Fallout 5 is only due after Elder Scrolls 6, and before that the developers from Bethesda Game Studios first have to get Starfield over the line.

Those who don”t need glossy graphics and are looking forward to more post-apocalyptic wasteland in any form and resolution can, however, at least rely on the fans.

What do you think of the Fallout settlement in Unreal Engine 5? Do you also find the graphics impressive? Would you like to see a remake of one of the Fallout games in a modern look? Or would you rather wait for Fallout 5 or a possible New Vegas 2? And which game would you still like to see in fancy graphics? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
