An artist tries to answer the question of what a possible Fallout 5 might look like in the red-hot Unreal Engine 5.
The Fallout series has been delighting fans of post-apocalyptic role-playing games since 1997. Apart from the online RPG spin-off Fallout 76, perhaps, which has struggled with sometimes serious problems since its release at the end of 2018 and has met with much criticism as a result.
The last single-player campaign appeared almost seven years ago, in November 2015, in the form of Fallout 4, which scored a proud 88 points in the GameStar test (minus one point for various glitches) and thus a Gold Award. Since then, a lot has happened in the industry, including the release of Unreal Engine 5 to take game graphics to a new level:
The Unreal Engine 5 is here! Are we finally getting NextGen graphics in games?
Fans of the role-playing series are eagerly awaiting a single-player sequel. Now YouTuber Enfant Terrible shows us what a possible Fallout 5 in the brand-new game engine Unreal Engine 5 could look like in a nifty trailer:
Fan project is not a playable demo
The video, which is just under three minutes long, was not explicitly created as a fan project with Fallout 5 in mind. According to YouTuber Enfant Terrible, it is a compilation – a collage, if you will – of several projects by different artists. The video footage, created in Unreal Engine 5, was thus chosen to resemble a scenario that could come from a possible Fallout 5.
In addition to the new techniques of the Unreal Engine 5, Nanite and Lumen, the extensive asset library Quixel Megascans, the 3D programmes Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D, the image editing programme Photoshop and several other tools were also used.
It is not clear from the description whether or to what extent YouTuber Enfant Terrible himself used the Unreal Engine 5 to edit the video projects. You can watch real playable demos in UE5 here:
- Hardly distinguishable from reality: You must see this Unreal Engine 5 demo
- Unreal Engine 5: Free Spider-Man demo looks great, but comes with a hefty price tag
Nevertheless, the trailer gives a very good impression of what an actually playable Fallout 5 could look like. The graphics also consistently correspond to what can be realised in real time with current hardware and the latest engines
What do you think? Do you like the trailer and could you imagine Fallout 5 looking like this one day? Or are you rather disappointed and hope that there is more to come? Feel free to write us in the comments!
