Fallout like it used to be: This role-playing game relies on classic strengths

With well-known names from the Fallout scene, New Blood is developing a new role-playing game that should appeal above all to fans of classics.

Whoever hears Fallout these days probably thinks first of the great role-playing games by Bethesda and Obsidian. But the post-apocalyptic role-playing series once started small: As an isometric role-playing game at Black Isle Studios. Those days are long gone, however – just not for developer New Blood Interactive.

The studio announced a new isometric CRPG during the PC Gaming Show 2022, which is aimed squarely at fans of the early Fallout games. The team is getting some prominent reinforcements for this, even if a release is still a long way off.

By the way: Bethesda will be creating a new Fallout in the future. However, you’ll have to wait a very long time for that too.

No title yet, but familiar names

The new role-playing game from New Blood, who previously worked on the shooter Dusk, currently has no name. At least for the public. Dave Oshry, CEO of the developer studio, didn’t want to reveal too much about his dream game anyway. During the PC Gaming Show there was therefore only a small teaser, but it already shows where the journey is to go:

The still nameless role-playing game relies on retro-futurism and isometric camera work for its scenario. In the teaser, we see, among other things, a character, possibly the game’s protagonist, standing on the street while a few NPCs are visible in front of him. Every now and then, spaceship-like vehicles fly over his head.

There are no more details about the game so far. However, New Blood is relying on real Fallout experience to realise the role-playing game. For example, Adam Lacko, who is known for Project Van Buren, is involved in the development. This is the completion of a version of Fallout 3 that was originally supposed to be developed by Black Isle Studios and not Bethesda.

Support is also provided by Alexander Berezin, who was involved in the Fallout Sonora modification, and composer Mark Morgan. The latter is even directly connected to the first two Fallout games, as he is responsible for the soundtrack of both classic role-playing games. In recent years, he has also worked on the soundtrack of Wasteland 2 and Wasteland 3.

No announcement, but a teaser

Dave Oshry doesn’t call the unveiling of the project an announcement yet. After all, there is not even a name at the moment. However, the role-playing game is a dream of his, Oshry told PC Gamer, which is why the team decided to give a sneak peek now.

It will probably be some time before a proper announcement with a name and maybe even a release date. Maybe then at the PC Gaming Show 2023, if it should take place again next year.

A classic role-playing game with an iso-perspective and an unusual setting: Are you happy about the announcement or the teaser or is the time of such role-playing games over for you? Feel free to write us your opinion about it in the comments!
