Because no one has responded to his letters of complaint, one Splatoon fan is resorting to unusual means to make his displeasure known.
Just be honest: Don’t you get upset about your favourite hobby on a regular basis? The performance of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at release hurt almost as much as the dialogue in Episode 2. Diablo 4 requires you to be permanently connected to the internet. Starfield only runs at 30 FPS on Xbox. Hollow Knight: Silksong probably won’t be released until 2042.
It’s time to unload your frustration! But where to put it? Your hairdresser doesn’t have a free appointment and mum doesn’t answer the phone. For one highly annoyed Splatoon fan, the solution was obvious: he bought Nintendo shares in order to puke to the CEO!
3,570 US dollars for a proper rant
The bone of contention was the fan’s opinion of the lack of customisation options for the character in Splatoon 3. In his opinion, it was unfair that male Inklinge
(the name of the squid-like species in the series) had fewer cosmetic options than their female counterparts, such as hairstyles or emotes.
He wrote letters to Nintendo but never received a reply. He then resorted to more drastic means, raising money to buy shares and acquiring company stock worth US$3,570. This gave him the right to attend Nintendo’s annual investor meeting.
If you know Japanese, you can read the fan’s letters yourself, as he posted them on Twitter:
任天堂の株主総会で今のスプラトゥーンのボーイの冷遇(司令とかハイカラシティのエモートとか)について訴えてきたよ!
途中で「他に質問したい人もいますので…」って言われちゃったから後半は予定より大分はしょっちゃったけど、なんとか伝えてきたよ!

What then happened at the meeting is bizarre and may make simple-minded people – like the author of these lines – laugh. During a question-and-answer session, the fan confronted Nintendo president Shunturo Furukawa with his, well, concern.
The fan’s concern was that the Nintendo president was not a fan.
The fan literally talked himself into a frenzy, The president waited patiently, but then took advantage of a brief pause for breath from the fan to fire off a genuine Nintendo answer with the force of a bullet willy:
Thank you for playing our game so enthusiastically. We appreciate your valuable opinion.
Dad and Mum don’t help buy shares
How old the fan is is beyond our knowledge. He must be of age to buy shares, but he still seems to be in active contact with his parents. They have denied him the necessary small change and have also advised him against taking out a loan.
The fan apparently did this by buying Nintendo consoles like the Switch OLED and reselling them for a higher price. Successfully, he scraped together $3,570 and this brings this curious story full circle.
Now you may be staring at your display and wondering: What the hell did I just read here? You can’t buy shares in GlobalESportNews, but we’re only too happy to let you have your say: What do you think of this story? So that it doesn’t get too out of hand, let’s concentrate on the game: Do you agree with the criticism surrounding Splatoon 3? Write it down in the comments!
