Farming Simulator 22: Is the first paid DLC worth it?

Ten new vehicles from the Italian agricultural machinery manufacturer Antonio Carraro expand the fleet of LS22 – either for free as part of the Season Pass or for ten euros. We reveal for whom the DLC is worthwhile in the first place.

As the name suggests, the contents of the Antonio Carraro Pack for the LS22 are limited to commercial vehicles from the manufacturer of the same name. A total of ten compact tractors, which are particularly suitable for use in grassland technology or for grape or olive cultivation, are part of the download pack. Those who expected new content such as additional production chains, fresh gameplay elements or new vehicle categories are left empty-handed for the time being.

But that is not a problem, because on the one hand, developer Giants communicates the content transparently. On the other hand, the roadmap of the first Season Pass has more upcoming expansions in store for you. As the first now revealed additional content after release, Season Pass owners can download the Antonio Carraro Pack for free from 22 March. All others will have to pay just under 10 euros for the new vehicles – about one euro per vehicle. But is it worth it at all? We have tested the first paid DLC for you.

Our usual high quality …

We can use the fleet reinforcements on all three maps available in the game. Both prospective new farmers and owners of already established farms simply select the Antonio Carraro Pack in the menu when the game starts and the contents are included in the game. As usual, we then simply visit the trader and make a purchase: In the “Brands” tab, they are under “Antonio Carraro”. Alternatively, we can find all the vehicles under “Compact Tractors”.

In terms of design, true-to-the-original modelling, driving feel and simulation, the new tractors are on a qualitatively very high level with the rest of the fleet. For example, when we chug across paths and meadows in our TONY 10900 TTR with 98 hp and a top speed of 40 km/h, it’s fun.

In the exterior view, we can see how well the seat’s suspension simulates the ride on uneven terrain: Our character rocks back and forth in the driver’s cabin in a physically correct way. The interior view is, as usual, very detailed and gives us a very good feeling of really sitting in a tractor.

.. but more of the same

The question of whether this is more or less fun than riding in the countless vehicles already included in the game or added for free through mods in the months after release is one that each player must decide for themselves.

Because in the end Giants “only” deliver new tractors with the Antonio Carraro Pack. In addition, the 98 hp mentioned is already the maximum power. Although this corresponds to the orientation of the real Antonio Carraro company, for us players this results in a rather manageable range of uses.

Because of their narrow track, the DLC vehicles are suitable for use in grape or olive cultivation. They are also helpful for work in grassland technology or in other fields of activity that require manoeuvrability rather than pure engine power. Those who want to move heavy equipment will not be happy with compact tractors.

When we drive the TONY 10900 TTR over woods and meadows, our character in the driver's seat rocks in a physically correct way.

Really only recommended for technology fans

Who is the Antonio Carraro Pack suitable for? The answer is quite simple: Those who already own the Season Pass will be happy about the new, authentically designed tractors for the virtual farm, implemented in the usual high quality. All others must decide for themselves whether they want to load ten compact tractors from the Italian manufacturer into the already extensive manufacturer portfolio of the game for ten euros.

The interior views are of the usual high quality and give us the feeling of sitting in the cab of a tractor.

Those of you who belong to the group of players with a very strong interest in licensed equipment and accurate depiction of technical processes may be enthusiastic about the successful simulation of the vehicles, but without getting anything fundamentally new.

For this target group, the DLC is completely recommendable, because it expands the vehicle fleet, provides more possibilities, offers space to try out new vehicles and thus strengthens one of the central pillars of the Farming Simulator. Apart from that, the current expansion does not bring anything exclusive with it, because all the work can also be done with the vehicles already available.

Editorial conclusion

New content for the LS22 is always good and I’m glad that developer Giants is staying on the ball here and providing for the community. But for those who say that ten new vehicles from a single manufacturer for the first entry on the Season Pass roadmap is a bit low, I won’t disagree much.

As a small expansion for ten euros, however, the Antonio Carraro Pack certainly has its raison d’être, especially since the vehicles are modelled and simulated in the usual high Giants quality. If you are looking for variety and want to equip your farm with a wide range of equipment, you can confidently consider downloading it – those who already have the Season Pass will be happy anyway.

For everyone else, it is not a disaster if they skip the DLC (for the time being), as they do not miss anything essential and the tractors do not come with any exclusive deployment scenarios. For me, the Antonio Carraro Pack is somewhat emblematic of the complete LS: It offers lovingly crafted, original licensed content at an overall fair price, but I can choose from so much content that I don’t need this exact one to have fun with the game.

However, this also means that the Antonio Carraro Pack is not a reason for me to take out a subscription for the complete Season Pass now.
