After “Disney Plus” and “Apple TV Plus” now comes “NASA Plus”: streaming from space.
“To infinity … and much further!” are the famous words of space pilot Buzz Lightyear from the animated film Toy Story.
This “much further” is now going streaming for NASA. Because this summer the American space agency wants to launch its own streaming platform (see Press release).
Ahead of time: Whether the “NASA+” offer is suitable for you as an alternative to the major streaming players certainly depends on your enthusiasm for space travel.
In any case, NASA+ offers one advantage for the small purse: The platform is supposed to be available free of charge.
So what will NASA offer you soon?

What’s on NASA PLUS?
Although NASA already broadcasts live streams via its website, the “NASA+” offer is intended to further expand the existing offer.
On the streaming platform, you can expect live broadcasts on the one hand and video series produced especially for NASA+ on the other.
Attractive is also the fact that “NASA+” will get by without advertising. In other words, according to the announcement, the platform will be free of costs and advertising.
Marc Etkind from NASA’s “Office of Public Affairs” is quoted in the associated press release as saying:
“With NASA’s new streaming platform, we’re putting space under your fingertips”
Fittingly, the advertising slogan for the streaming platform is: “The universe at your fingertips”. But see and be amazed below.
Also nice for those of you with small family participants: NASA+ is designed to be family friendly.
How can you access NASA PLUS?
If you want to access the moving image content from space travel, you have various options. You should be able to access the streaming offer via the NASA Android or Apple app.
Which streaming formats will NASA release?
The barely one-minute preview above aims – with suspenseful cuts and dramatic music – to make you appreciate the streaming offering waiting in the wings.
The video shows you some titles of future video formats – namely: “NASA TALKS”, “Space out”, “The Color of Space”, “NASA Kids”, “Webb Space Telescope”, “NASA EN Español”, “Mars is Hard – Taught by Astronaut Stanley Love”, “Lucy”, “Artmeis I: Path of the Pad”, “NASA Explorers”, “Osiris-Rex” and “First Light”.
So you will most likely be offered streaming formats with a focus on: Content tailored to children, the James Webb Space Telescope, the Artemis manned space project, or the OSIRIS-REx space probe.
Further details on the different formats remain to be seen.
NASA PLUS and other innovations
In addition to the streaming service, NASA also wants to renovate the appearance of its website. The new website is intended to present information on current missions and research projects more clearly.
In fact, you can already access the redesigned (website) which is in a beta phase. NASA encourages you to visit the site and leave feedback.
Are you excited about NASA now taking off with its own streaming platform? Do you think NASA+ will replace Netflix, Disney+ and the like? Or is that rather unlikely and only intended for a niche audience? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments.
