As every week, you can grab a free game gift from Epic Games. This time it’s a turn-based tactics game with a grid system

Do you still remember floppy disks? These unwieldy magnetic disks in a plastic case, which were the predecessor of today’s USB sticks as portable storage media. Then you were probably born before the year 2000. Because only 5 years later, the floppy disk was almost extinct

Thanks to the incredibly small floppy disks of only a few megabytes, many of us had our first contact with video games back then. However, the floppy disks could not only be used to store documents and programs, but also… Ritter.

At least that’s what the current free game at Epic proves. Because like every week, the Steam competitor is offering a free game gift.We clarify whether Floppy Knights is worth it for you.

The free game of the week:Floppy Knights

(Genre:Strategy game / Deckbuilder / Developer: Rose City Games / Release: May 2022)

In Floppy Knights you accompany the young scientist Phoebe, who is on a mission to finally save enough money to move out of her home. Her plan: lots and lots of crazy inventions. One of them is the Floppy Knight.

With the help of Phoebe’s intelligent robot arm Carlton, you fight turn-based tactical battles on chessboard maps in the game of the same name. Your fighters are knights that you save on disks, which Carlton can read and then project onto the battlefield.

However, a strong knight is not enough to win.You must use the disks to assemble decks in order to fully exploit the strengths of each card. You can choose cards from three different deck categories. The whole thing is rounded off by a pleasantly nostalgic retro synth soundtrack.

What other games are free?

For the sake of completeness, we would like to point out that GOG, CD Projekt’s games marketplace, also offers a permanent selection of free titles, including the first two parts of The Elder Scrolls, Daggerfall and Arena. It’s particularly worthwhile for fans of retro games to check here regularly

Not free, but at least many games are still reduced for a few hours in the current Steam Summer Sale.
