Update from July 11, 2024:Pilots take note, there’s a slightly different air combat game available for free from Epic for a few more hours. The free offer is valid until 4:59 pm today. You can find out for whom it’s particularly worthwhile in our original report here:

Original message: When you read aerial combat, you probably think ofspectacular dogfightsfrom flight simulations such asAce Combat,Project WingmanorDCS World. However, the current free game of the week from Epic Games has little to do with this.

InThe Falconeeryou fight on a falcon instead of with airplanes. And we’re not talking about Han Solo’s legendary Millennium Falcon from Star Wars, but a real bird of prey.We introduce you to titles.

The free game of the week: The Falconeer

(Genre: Action role-playing game –Developer: Tomas Sala –Release: November 2020)

The Falconeer is a solo project by Dutch developer Tomas Sala, who role-playing game fans may know for his Skyrim mod Moonpath to Elsweyr. However, The Falconeer has little to do with the Elder Scrolls universe

The Falconeer is set in a fantasy world called “Great Primordial Sea”, which is full of beasts, rival factions and secrets above and below ground. Here you take on the role of a Falconeer, a mighty warrior of the skies who travels the world to resolve disputes and uncover secrets.

On the back of a majestic warbird, take on pirates, krakens and other threats in breathtaking aerial battles. Oh yes:Your falcon can shoot lasers You can use earned shards to upgrade your bird and adapt it to your individual play style – so there’s a bit of role-playing involved too

The Falconeer was evennominated for a BAFTA Award from the British Film Academy in 2021for its artistic approach. The Unity engine serves as the technical backbone of the game
