The Epic Store is giving away Verdun and Defense Grid: The Awakening. We clarify who should take a closer look at the free games.

Once again, the Epic Store is doing its weekly gift round: With Verdun and Defense Grid: The Awakening, there are free games for shooter and strategy fans this time.

Time-limited promotion: The offer is valid from 22 to 29 July 2021 at 17:00 each day. Those who bag the games during this period get to keep them permanently

But time doesn’t grow on trees: So that you can assess whether one or even both titles meet your taste, we’ll give you an overview here as usual. What makes the games stand out and who should take a closer look?

If there’s nothing for you this week, it might be worth taking a look at Prime Gaming. There are currently two big shooter names there as part of the Amazon subscription:

Verdun

Verdun is a hardcore shooter and is set in the First World War. The game features realistic weapons and uniforms and revolves around the infamous Battle of Verdun. Players from two factions compete against each other in trench warfare. The teams are again divided into groups of four, which must coordinate with each other to win in one of the four game modes. Among others, there is a tug-of-war for front lines as well as a defence mode. But deathmatch is also included, which is good for practice.

Especially players who want a game experience that is as close to reality as possible might find the right title in Verdun. Moreover, now is perhaps the best chance to find enough fellow players and full servers. On Steam, player numbers remain in the low triple digits on average (via Steamcharts.com).

Defense Grid: The Awakening

Defense Grid: The Awakening is a classic tower defence game. You must defend your base tower as hordes of aliens rush in. To do this, you build defences, cannon towers and flamethrowers. The more efficiently you defend your base, the more rewards you will receive at the end.

Defense Grid leads you through an eight-hour story on 20 different maps. If you still haven’t had enough, you can invest more time in the challenge modes.

Is there a game for you this week? Have you played it and can you (not) recommend it? Feel free to post your opinion in the comments!
