Doom 2: Ray Traced is a free mod that really enhances the classic
Even though Doom II is now 30 years old, it is still a popular classic.
Thanks to services such asGogandSteamyounger players can now plunge into the demonic world without having to fiddle with disks.
So it’s no wonder that the modding scene is also active. This week, “Doom 2: Ray Traced” was released
In detail:
- Raytracing effects are integrated into the game.
- The mod is available free of charge.
- It works with the game package Doom + Doom II, which is available on Steam.
The mod adds support for the following effects:
- Realtime pathtracing
- Reflections
- Lighting effects
- Particle-based fluid simulation allows blood to interact with everything in a scene
- All elements have shadows

The result is impressive, even if the graphics are of course not raised to the level of aDoom: The Dark Ages
The developer has also uploaded a video to YouTube showing scenes from the game.
How to install Doom 2: Ray Traced
- Installs Doom + Doom II on Steam.
- Download Doom 2: Ray Traced from the websiteModdbdownload.
- Unzip the downloaded archive, for example by right-clicking and selecting to extract everything.
- Open the newly created folder.
- Starts gzdoom.exe.
Tip:In the game, you can then switch between the normal view and ray tracing by pressing the C key.
Doom + Doom II were recently released with new features. The games offer extra features such as a browser for modifications, cross-platform deathmatch games with up to 16 players, display improvements and the new Legacy of Rust episode.
