Maneater
(Genre: Action Role-Playing Game – Developer: Blindside Interactive – Release: 2020/05/22)
Sharks are really misunderstood animals. They swim peacefully through the sea, play hide and seek in the algae jungle, help Nemo find his father and occasionally eat helpless holidaymakers.
The last point is a lie and a mean prejudice? That may be true in reality, but it definitely doesn’t apply to Maneater! Because here you slip into the skin of a very hungry shark whose greatest hobby is raiding tourist boats. But wait, at the beginning of the game you start off much smaller – as a baby shark, to be precise.
As a killer shark offspring, you must first hunt small fish, turtles and other sea creatures in order to become stronger and grow. In the game, your progress becomes noticeable through level-ups, which improve your attack, defence and speed attributes. And at the latest in shark puberty, you can finally face a real boss, defeat it and unlock upgrades.
These upgrades can be bone fins for more armour or electric fangs that paralyse your opponents. Alternatively, you can also pimp your passive attibutes, such as an improved … digestive system.
Once you’ve earned your biter diploma, you’re finally off to hunt human prey. You can sink fishing boats, for example, and get to know the overboard anglers inside out. If the humans don’t want to come to you, you can also just throw your massive body ashore and wriggle around wildly, enjoying the sun and nibbling on tourists.
But beware, it won’t be long before heavily armed hunters are on their way. Until you can stand up to them, you’ll have to keep growing and seek your hail in flight!
As you can see, Maneater is anything but realistic, but all the more fun for it. At least if you don’t expect a deep game experience with a gripping plot and complex gameplay. If you’re just in the mood for an entertaining dive with human snacks, you should give Maneater a chance.
Is Maneater something for you or would you rather have another title? What is your experience with the game? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
