One of the most popular celebrity gamers is probably Henry Cavill. But he is by no means the only one.

What do celebrities do when they’re not on set? Well, they play video games! Of course, not all of them, but there are surprisingly many actors and singers who regularly have a controller or a mouse in their hands.

You want to know which ones? No problem. We have put together a small list of the most famous gamers for you.

10 celebrities and their favorite games

Tastes differ. This is particularly reflected in the stars’ favorites. From Animal Crossing to Call of Duty, everything is included.

Henry Cavill – World of Warcraft and Warhammer 40K

It’s no secret that Henry Cavill loves Warhammer 40K. The 41-year-old actor talks about his hobby in numerous talk shows and interviews.

Cavill built his PC himself and paints Warhammer figures in his free time. We also know that he played the video game series in preparation for his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series.

Samuel L. Jackson – Pong

Samuel L. Jackson’s video game past takes us right back to the beginning. The 76-year-old actor grew up playing games like Pong and Space Invaders (via Essentially Sports), and thus even experienced the dawn of the video game era.

Many years later, he immortalized himself in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as Officer Tenpenny, to whom he lends his voice.

Brie Larson – Animal Crossing, The Legend of Zelda

Captain Marvel from the MCU loves Animal Crossing! Yes, you heard that right. On her own YouTube channel, Brie Larson even shows you her New Horizons island.

It’s no wonder that the 35-year-old has already appeared in a commercial for Nintendo. In 2020, she revealed in an interview with Elle that she plays other titles like Fortnite, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Super Smash Bros. and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in addition to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Daniel Craig – Grand Theft Auto, Halo

Video game cocktail. Shaken, not stirred. James Bond actor Daniel Craig’s favorite game is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (via Wired). But if he plays it for too long, he eventually feels “dirty.”

Then he plays Halo, because he likes killing aliens just as much.

Jack Black – Red Dead Redemption 2

Another star with their own YouTube channel is Jack Black. On JablinskiGames, the 55-year-old shares his life, his music and his passion for video games.

His love for Red Dead Redemption 2 is even immortalized in the song Video Games by his band Tenacious D. There he also names God of War and Fallout 4.

A catchy tune to go:

Zac Efron – Halo

In his mid-twenties, the Baywatch actor enjoyed playing the Halo series. In 2007, he even attended the launch party for Halo 3 and was so engrossed that he played until midnight.

Meanwhile, Efron is 37 years old and probably has less time for video games.

Ariana Grande – Sackboy: A Big Adventure

The 31-year-old singer is a fan of the platform game Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Ariana Grande revealed this at the beginning of 2021 – at the dawn of the PlayStation 5 era – and was promptly mentioned by the game’s official account on X (formerly Twitter).

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – Mortal Kombat, Rampage

The 52-year-old action hero doesn’t just let his fists fly in front of the camera, but also in his private life. Because The Rock’s favorite game is Mortal Kombat. The actor also has enough to do with the series, as there are now 13 games.

In an interview with Promo-Interview about Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, he also reveals that the arcade game Rampage (1986) holds a special place in his heart. Perhaps also because he took on the leading role in the 2009 adaptation of the classic.

Tom Holland – Uncharted 4

Tom Holland’s favorite game should come as no surprise to anyone, as the 28-year-old took on the role of main character Nathan Drake in the video game adaptation of Uncharted.

Three years ago, in a promotional interview, when asked which three games he would play on a desert island for the rest of his life, Holland named Marvel’s Spider-Man (also no surprise), Skyrim and Hogwarts Legacy (via GameSpot Universe).

Vin Diesel – Call of Duty, Dungeons & Dragons

Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel has long been known to be a gamer and has quite a few video games and genres on his list. Accordingly, the 57-year-old plays everything from MMOs to RTS.

In fact, he also founded the development studio Tigon Studios, which, among other things, helped publish the game Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. He is also involved in the upcoming survival game Ark 2 as a producer.

Incidentally, there are a number of other stars who have a secret passion for video games. However, mentioning all of them would probably have gone beyond the scope of this article.
