Not only Nvidia, but also AMD is working on a new upscaling generation. FSR 4 is now showing for the first time in a hidden CES demo.
CES 2025 is in full swing. GPU manufacturer AMD kicked off the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas by at least announcing the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the new upscaling generation FSR 4.
However, those interested in GPUs are still waiting for official details, so a lot of the information is still based on leaks, rumors and trade show visitors.
The latter includes the YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed, which, according to its own statement, has now stumbled across two “hidden” computers that do not explicitly list FSR 4 – but do mention “AMD Graphics Research AI-based Upscaling”.
- In the eyes of the YouTubers, a clear indication that this is indeed the fourth version of FidelityFX Super Resolution.
- In addition, Hardware Unboxed was told that the graphics cards installed are a Radeon RX 9000. However, the exact model was not mentioned.
The platform game “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” was running on the test computers as a game. For the comparison values, the YouTubers recorded the performance mode of FSR 3.1 and FSR 4 at two times upscaling to 4K resolution.
It was not possible to quantify the FPS or latencies due to a lack of displays, but the YouTubers were impressed by the visual improvements that should be seen in the video:
In the eyes of Hardware Unboxed, FSR still does not come close to the quality of Nvidia DLSS, but the development is positive. Streaking and flickering effects in particular were observed to a significantly lesser extent.
