The prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa, is soon to be released in cinemas. Now there’s a first official image and the trailer is also in the starting blocks
At the age of 78, George Miller wants to do it again: The film director is sending Furiosa, the latest installment in the Mad Max series, into the race, which is set to open in cinemas on May 24, 2024. Now there is finally a first official image for Furiosa, while a teaser trailer is apparently also waiting in the wings.
What’s the Furiosa prequel about?
In Furiosa, it’s not Charlize Theron but Anya Taylor-Joy who takes on the role of the titular emperor. And for good reason: Furiosa is a prequel to Fury Road, which tells the story of the fierce warrior. The plot of the film spans a period of 15 years and could lead directly into the events of Fury Road.
The first image from the fifth Mad Max film shows Anya Taylor-Joy in the familiar Furiosa look we know from Fury Road. The CCXP is currently taking place in Sao Paulo and a first trailer is to be shown there on November 30, 2023. As the cinema release of Furiosa is not far off, it should be shared with the public soon

What else you should know about the Furiosa movie
In Furiosa, Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Tyler Rake: Extraction) will play the villain called Dementus. Tom Burke (Mank, Only God Forgives) is also on board in an as yet unknown role. Tom Hardy, meanwhile, will not return as Max Rockatansky
Meanwhile, fans can look forward to a reunion with two villains from Fury Road: For example, Immortan Joe and the Bullet Farmer are set to appear, this time played by younger actors. Their original actors Hugh Keays-Byrne and Richard Carter have since passed away

What’s next for Mad Max after Furiosa?
By the way: George Miller is still planning a sequel to Fury Road, which currently has the working title The Wastelands. The now 78-year-old director wants to make the sequel if he gets the chance.
Of course, this will also depend on how well Furiosa is received by critics and at the box office. Since Fury Road is one of the best action films of all time, fans can probably be optimistic
