Four years after the last installment in the series, a new Gears of War was announced at the Xbox Showcase. The prequel is set to tell the story of a new era of gaming? Nvidia’s latest innovation could change the way we play forever
Project G-Assist could be the next big revolution after DLSS and Frame Generation
Nvidia’s keynote at Computex 2024 was all about artificial intelligence. No wonder, the company is making a fortune with it and has become one of the most valuable companies in the world
Many of the innovations announced are, however, only moderately interesting for the majority of players. Yes, there are now great new RTX AI laptops, more monitors that support G-Sync and more games that offer DLSS 3 or DLSS 3.5.
And developers can be pleased that Nvidia has revealed the source code for the RTX Remix Toolkit, which can be used to bring classic games into the modern age. But these are not new graphics cards that had high hopes. In our opinion, however, one thing does stand out: Project G-Assist
What’s Project G-Assist all about?
Project G-Assist is actually not all that new. It goes back to an April joke from 2017
TheGeforce GTX G-Assist
should support gamers, for example to master difficult passages in games. What’s more, the AI should even be able to take over the helm completely and continue playing and communicating in online games such as Rainbow Six: Siege just as you would have done
At the time, nobody could have imagined that developments in the field of artificial intelligence would take such huge leaps as we see today with large language models such as ChatGPT (Large Language Models, LLM for short). And now, parts of the former owl’s nest are actually becoming reality
Project G-Assist can’t do everything the April Fool’s joke suggested, but that’s a good thing, because that would clearly be cheating. Nevertheless, it is a powerful tool:

The real AI chatbot is not only able to provide information on how the performance or look of a game can be improved, it can even intervene and make changes itself if the player prompts it to do so in the overlay. It is also able to automatically overclock or dynamically undervolt the graphics card (viaNvidia).
At the same time, the AI recognizes whether the correct resolution and refresh rate is selected.
For example, if you want to have a smooth 60 frames per second, you no longer have to fiddle around in the settings yourself, but simply tell or write it to the AI.
The performance functions are a little reminiscent of the Geforce Experience, which can also make automated settings
More than a further development of the Geforce Experience
Project G-Assist is capable of much more. It can provide valuable tips, for example on how to solve quests, how to obtain certain items or how to defeat difficult bosses
Where is the best weapon for the early game? The AI has the answer. How can a certain dinosaur be tamed in Arc: Survival Ascended? Exactly, the clever chatbot knows
But only for the time being if the developers actively integrate it and feed it with appropriate databases.
The first games with support for Project G-Assist are likely to be the aforementioned Arc: Survival Ascended and Cyberpunk 2077, whose developers Studio Wildcard and CD Project Red Nvidia have teamed up with to realize tech demos of the chatbot.
However, it is not known exactly when games with corresponding support will be released.
This is what we think of Project G-Assist
In our opinion, AI is one of, if not the most exciting feature for players since the introduction of DLSS and Frame Generation.
However, the question arises as to whether games might not be too easy to master, even if Nvidia denies this. Of course, everyone is free to decide how much support they want. But Project G-Assist could also invite convenience
Nonetheless, we are excited to see how the chatbot behaves in practice and are very enthusiastic about the concept.

There is cause for celebration for Gears of War fans:
Around four years after the last installment in the series – if you don’t count Tactics, it’s even five – Gears of War is returning with a new title.
At this year’s Xbox Showcase from publisher Microsoft, the prequel with the simple additional title
E-Day
was officially announced.
In the Gears universe,
E-Day stands for the so-called Emergence Day, the day on which the genetically modified Locust first emerged from the earth and threatened the people of Sera.
Series fans may remember: Back in 2006, we were given a glimpse of this day in the legendary Mad World trailer for the first Gears of War. And that’s exactly what the new installment of the series plans to follow – or rather anticipate – in terms of style
Because E-Day is set 14 years before the first Gears of War
and tells the story leading up to its events. In the announcement trailer, the two heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago can be seen taking on a brutal Locust thug
The two then look down on a burning city to the stylized sounds of a piano version of Mad World. And thanks to the Unreal Engine 5 used, this scenery also looks really chic. But see for yourself, we’ve included the trailer above
The veteran studioThe Coalition, which was also responsible for parts four and five of the series, is once again in charge of development.
A release date for E-Day has unfortunately not yet been communicated.
It can be assumed that E-Day will be released for PC and Xbox consoles. A PlayStation release is currently still questionable.
In addition, there are currently alsoplans from Netflixto produce a series set in the Gears of War universe.
