The horse that played Geralt’s horse Plötze in The Witcher seasons 2 and 3 has died unexpectedly.
Netflix’s The Witcher series has suffered an unfortunate and unexpected loss. Hector, the horse who played Geralt’s loyal companion Plötze, has died suddenly at the young age of just 12 years old.
Hector should have lived to be more than twice that age
Hector took over the role of Plötze during the second season of The Witcher after Geralt’s first steed was killed by a monster. Both horses come from the Hungarian riding stable Juhászteam, which, among other things, provides trained animals for films and series.
Reunion with Henry Cavill: Hector was not only active as an actor in the film and series industry. Before the first season of The Witcher was filmed, Geralt actor Henry Cavill learned to ride on him. During the filming of the second season, there was a big reunion.
According to Redanian Intelligence, Hector was just twelve years old at the time of his death. That’s pretty young for a Friesian horse, after all, the species has a life expectancy of 25 to 30 years. Occasionally they even live into their late thirties.
The X user starlessluc has posted a tribute to , in which Hector can be seen together with the actors Ben Barnes and Henry Cavill:
the fact that Hector is the same horse Henry Cavill trained on for The Witcher still absolutely cracks me pic.twitter.com/RT3G3fgt0p

What does Hector have to do with Ben Barnes? The British actor, best known for the Narnia films, was not involved in The Witcher, nor does he work part-time at a riding stable.
However, Hector was already seen in the Netflix series Shadow and Bone before his role as Plötze, in which Barnes played the character General Aleksander Kirigan until the series was canceled in 2023.
Since filming on The Witcher Season 4 wrapped up in October of last year, it’s quite possible that you’ll see Hector on screen one last time. However, this has not been confirmed. Who will definitely not be part of the next season is Henry Cavill. He ended his collaboration with Netflix and was subsequently replaced by Liam Hemsworth.
