According to various insiders, there should have been a reveal of the release date of God of War Ragnarok yesterday. But the big announcement failed to materialise. Instead, the producer of the final part of the series spoke out.

Yesterday, all Kratos fans were on guard, only to learn nothing new after all. Because the big release announcement of God of War Ragnarok failed to materialise. As Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier said on Twitter, an announcement really seemed to be planned for 30 June. But for internal reasons, it seems that the decision was made not to publish the date. Many fans were anything but thrilled about this and began with wild insults against all the leakers and the developers. Along with this, many fans feared that the release of the game would now be postponed to next year.

The outpouring of frustration began with a tweet from God of War Ragnarok producer Cory Barlog, who urged the community to be patient in a (Tweet). He himself would like to share all information with the fans, but it is not up to him to make these decisions. At the same time, he contradicted the boiling rumour mill and declared that the title would not be postponed. So it”s back to waiting and looking forward to PlayStation”s next big announcement.

Fan frustration: a hate bubble with no escape

Of course, one is allowed to be frustrated about this if one is eagerly waiting for info on one”s favourite game. Of course you are allowed to express your annoyance and say that you are disappointed not to have heard anything new.

However, it is incomprehensible how some community members can break out into a huge hate triad and lash out with wild accusations. Apart from coming across as a toddler in a tantrum, what other effect is this anger supposed to have?

We don”t know the internal workings of PlayStation and Santa Monica. We don”t know who ultimately made the decision to postpone the announcement. The important thing is, there”s nothing we can do about it. Once we”ve fallen into the Twitter hate bubble, it”s hard to get out of it. Instead, our anger builds and builds until really unpalatable results occur. So far, at least, we haven”t read anything about death threats, but cinematic producer Estelle Tigani has already been sexually harassed via Twitter.

Gaming may be a wonderful hobby that connects millions of people all over the world and makes us forget everyday life for some time. But the ugly face of the community might need a paid spa holiday one day.
