Frame Generation in Cyberpunk 2077 without an RTX 40 graphics card? A new mod makes it possible – and promises more games

Last week, GPU manufacturer AMD released the open source code for FSR 3.

The third generation of the upscaling answer to Nvidia DLSS is also accompanied by the integration of Fluid Motion Frames. Like Nvidia’s Frame Generation, it is used for intermediate image calculation and can therefore massively increase the frame rate in games

Thanks to the code release, some modders have been able to get to work in the past few days and are now presenting their first results: With the (“DLSSG-To-FSR3”-Mod) FSR 3 can now be activated instead of DLSS – even if you have an older Nvidia graphics card.

The linked video shows the use of the FSR-3 mod with an RTX 3080, i.e. a graphics card that is not suitable for Nvidia’s own frame generation – but for AMD’s FMF solution.

RTX 20 GPUs of the Turing generation should also be compatible with the mod and thus experience a noticeable boost in the frame rate.

However, this does not guarantee that the results will be identical to a native implementation of FSR 3 and Fluid Motion Frames.

This only refers to the dimensions of the generated intermediate images: In the associated Reddit thread, there is also talk of visual artifacts that may occur under certain circumstances.

The tool itself is not only designed for Cyberpunk 2077. In general, games from CD Projekt Red seem to be able to do a lot with the mod, as The Witcher 3 is also said to benefit from (DLSSG-To-FSR3) without major difficulties.

Other games such as Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart or Hitman 3, which are supposed to work with the implementation, still show problems. One workaround is to deactivate HDR content

After all, an official version of FSR 3 for Cyberpunk 2077 is also being worked on, as AMD already explained at the time of the original announcement:

Now it’s your turn: Are you interested in the DLSSG-to-FSR3 mod and have you perhaps even been able to try it out yourself? If so, what frame rates do you achieve with it in Cyberpunk 2077 and which games do you think should also get this feature? Let us know in the comments below
