Rumours say a remaster of the three GTA games 3, Vice City and San Andreas is coming. But according to new info from insiders, it won’t be until 2022 and not this year.
Areportedly, GTA: 3, Vice City and San Andreas will return in old and new graphics as part of a Remaster Trilogy. The emphasis is on “allegedly” – the remake has not yet been officially confirmed.
And after rumours made the rounds that the GTA Remaster Trilogy would be released as early as October or November 2021, an established insider now contradicts this. According to Tom Henderson, who already made a name for himself with his insights into Call of Duty and Battlefield, GTA fans may have to wait a little longer.
GTA Remaster Trilogy not until 2022?
There’s a consensus here: Tom Henderson explains on Twitter that his info largely coincides with previous rumours about the GTA Remaster Trilogy. So that the remakes will come with revamped graphics and UI thanks to Unreal Engine, they will be gameplay-wise based on the originals and will be released for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.
Controversial: However, according to Tom Henderson, the GTA Remaster Trilogy will not be released in 2021, but at an unspecified date in 2022 at the earliest. Of course, you should take this alleged information – like the previous rumours – with a grain of salt until it is officially confirmed.
I wasn't going to mention the GTA Remastered Trilogy, because everything I've heard has been covered – The only difference is that I don't believe the launch time frame is correct.

Who is right now?
Henderson is considered trustworthy: Tom Henderson is currently one of the most reliable insiders in the gaming industry. Normally, he mainly provides insights into new Battlefield or Call of Duty games. Most recently, however, he also gained a foothold at Rockstar by sharing alleged information about GTA 6 – which has not been confirmed to date.
Kotaku, too, of course: Kotaku, on the other hand, also usually refers to reliable sources or almost never reports on something that later turns out to be false. Accordingly, it is of course difficult to determine who could ultimately be right about the release date of the GTA Remaster Trilogy.
It cannot be ruled out that a potential re-release of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas in October or November 2021 is outdated information. Or there is a misunderstanding between Henderson and Kotaku: After all, the latter is talking about the GTA Remaster Trilogy being released in 2021 for consoles and only in 2022 for PC and mobile.
However, the fact that the remake of the well-known GTA titles will at least be announced in October should be as good as certain: Grand Theft Auto 3 will celebrate its 20th anniversary on this date and Rockstar has already announced that there will be something to celebrate. Whether the release of the alleged Remaster Trilogy will take place at the same time or soon remains questionable.
What else is happening in GTA?
Last Rockstar released the Los Santos Tuners update, which gave GTA Online new cars and a garage as a property, among other things. On November 11, the standalone version of GTA Online will follow alongside the NextGen update of GTA 5 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
