In the age of ray tracing, Half-Life 2 is getting its shot too. The demo for the fan remaster will soon be released on Steam, letting the shooter shine in a new light.

Insert any Half-Life 3 joke here] – Honestly, even we are getting a little tired of this. Instead, let’s focus on what we have. And that is, for example, the wonderful technology of ray tracing and, of course, Half-Life 2

You can judge for yourselves whether the two go well together: a well-known mod team has taken on the classic shooter and ironed out a few wrinkles.

Half-Life 2 is getting an RTX mod

From March 18th the demo of the mod via Steam will be playable. To get access, you need to own Half-Life 2 – and, of course, appropriately equipped hardware.

Raytracing is joined by new textures, newly built assets and DLSS 4, among other things. So if you own one of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX graphics cards, you can even use the new Transformer AI model, which further improves image quality. What’s more, DLSS 4 Multi-Frame increases your frame rate.

Nvidia announced the demo itself on their homepage with the following words:

NVIDIA RTX Remix, a modding platform for RTX AI PCs, was developed to change that. By reimagining the graphics of these timeless classics using cutting-edge ray tracing, we are building a bridge between the past and the future. This allows long-time fans to relive their favorite adventures in stunning detail while introducing a new wave of gamers to the games that defined an era.

The demo initially offers content for about two hours of gameplay, during which you can explore locations like Ravenholm and the Nova Prospect.

Incidentally, the mod is being developed by Orbifold Studios. This banner unites four teams that have already created several HL projects, including the VR mod for Half-Life 2.
