A modder wants to make Half-Life 2 as beautiful and realistic as possible with his project and promises many exciting features.
Whether there will ever be a Half-Life 3, probably only GabeN and Valve themselves know. A freshly announced mod project, which calls itself Half-Life 2 Remastered and promises a lot of cool features, could shorten the wait – if its implementation is at all realistic.
Half-Life 2 Remastered comes from fan from real City 17
On the website (ModDB) Russian modder GameRoosh first announced the ambitious project a few days ago. His goal: to get the most out of the aging Half-Life 2 engine.
The promises he makes for the finished mod sound very bold:
- Realistic simulation of bullets
- Destructibility on the level of a Battlefield
- Implementation of cascading “CSM” shadow maps (like in modern games, where the shadow changes in real time)
- Animated sky
In addition, the whole thing should be much prettier than the original. Since his hometown City 17 from the game is supposed to be very similar, his plan is to walk around the city and take pictures of houses and other objects to make 8k textures for his project.
GameRoosh’s conviction about this project is strong. For him, people who don’t live in a city like that apparently can’t make a remaster as good as he can:
The problem with a lot of people remastering is this: That they don’t live in a city very similar to City 17. Because unlike others, I have a real chance to use the environment to make a remaster!
As a foretaste, he has already published some first screenshots, but according to the modder, they can’t yet reflect the targeted quality of his remaster. You can see them here:
In addition you can watch a first, short teaser trailer at ModDB
The modder himself says that he hopes you will watch the trailer with your mouth open and promises to make his mod as realistic as possible, being a person who appreciates realism in games.
So what do you guys say? Does this look cool to you, or is your mouth just hanging open because you can’t tell any difference at all from the original?
