The co-op mode of Halo Infinite may be tested soon. It’s important to the developers that each player keeps their progress.
What do Far Cry 6 and Dying Light 2 have in common? That’s right: they can be played in co-op, but the story progress is only saved for the host. Invited co-op guests, once they switch back to their own world, are left looking down the tube.
Why this is important for Halo Infinite? Because the developers are doing away with this restriction in the upcoming co-op mode. The team announces this in a new post on the (Halo website) and reveals even more details about the update fans have been waiting for.
Progress for all players in co-op
Coop campaign and Halo: They went hand in hand for many years – until Halo Infinite came along. In the latest part of the series, there was no possibility to play the campaign together with other players at release. This is to change in the not too distant future.
There is no official release date for the co-op update yet, but a first beta test will take place in a few days. From 11 to 22 July, members of the Xbox Insiders Programme can test the co-op mode.
In the same breath, 343 Industries also revealed a decisive detail: After the update, the campaign of Halo Infinite can be played through by up to four players simultaneously. The progress will be automatically transferred for each player and not only for the host.
In essence, this means that all completed main and side missions, unlocked equipment, found collectibles and all other things will be carried over. The days of playing someone else’s game are over, according to the developers in the blog entry. Players can easily switch between co-op and single player without losing progress.
This also applies if you join a co-op save state that has already progressed further in the campaign. In this case, the game automatically creates a version of the game world in which only the missions that all team members have already completed are completed.
Coop with crossplay function
Since Halo Infinite already offers crossplay support in multiplayer mode, this will also be continued in co-op. So you can also play together with players on the Xbox without any problems.
When the co-op update will finally be released is not yet set in stone. The developers are planning to release the co-op mode in August 2022.
Now it’s up to you: Are you looking forward to Halo Infinite’s co-op mode or is it coming too late? Have you already played through the campaign alone? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments!
