Many Potterheads have been waiting for years for a game that would bring them back to their beloved wizarding world. Since the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy, huge expectations have grown for the open-world title. Now publisher Warner Bros. and the newly formed developer studio Avalanche have shown a full 14 minutes of gameplay. What’s inside the new role-playing game?
First we build our own character, who enters in the 5th school year (and of course is sorted into one of the four houses, as it should be). As in the books and films, you spend part of your time with school lessons, such as herbology or potions. But besides that, the gameplay trailer shows many other activities, for example:
- visit the village of Hogsmead
- explore Hogwarts and the world outside the castle walls, even fight your way through dungeons
- duel with other students, as well as mischievous witches and goblins
- brew your own potions
- you fly on a broom
- you tame and tend magical creatures
- solve puzzles, collect loot, find new clothes and so on
Because Hogwarts Legacy is set at the end of the 19th century, there are only a few characters you know from Harry Potter. We’ve already spotted Nearly Headless Nick in the video, for example, as well as his colourful ghost colleague Peeves.
And what is the story about? You have a mysterious gift that lets you interact with ancient magic. As if that wasn’t enough excitement for a teenager, you also get caught in the middle of the Goblin Rebellion, where some of them conspire with evil sorcerers.
By the way, the game scenes were recorded on a PS5. Hogwarts Legacy will be released for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S as well as PC. There is no exact release date yet, so far only Christmas 2022 is planned, so very likely late autumn.
