In just over two weeks, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will be released. And it’s no surprise that Ubisoft’s extensive open-world games don’t show the credits after a few hours. But how much play time is there in Shadows? We now know the answer.
Playtime of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
In an interview with the YouTuber Genki Gamer , the creative director of Shadows Jonathan Dumont now revealed specific numbers about the playing time. The content creator summarized the findings in a article on X
I had the opportunity to interview Assassin’s Creed Shadows Creative Director Jonathan Dumont. Here are some of the key points:
– Now was the right time for Japan because the team really wanted to do it and it was a dream for them.

Dumont provided the following information at the start of the game:
- The main storyshould keep you busy for about30 to 40 hours
- If you want to take on all the side quests and other content, you should plan on 80 hours or more.
In Shadows, there are two main characters to choose from, and you can switch between them in the game. Ubisoft already gave the all-clear in mid-February, saying that players who only play Naoe or Yasuke won’t miss out on too much anyway.
There is also good news for achievement hunters, according to a post on the Steam blog about Shadows, it should be possible to get all the achievements in just one playthrough
Where does Shadows fit in?
If you look at the last three open-world parts of the series, Shadows is on a par with Origins in terms of playing time. According to the website How Long To Beat, the story takes about 30 hours to complete and players invest an average of 85 hours to get 100 percent.
With about 45 hours for the main story and 144 hours for players who want to see everything, Odyssey is significantly longer. Valhalla offers even more play time at 61 and 148 hours.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will be released on March 20 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
