Hunt is taking a sweeping approach in version 2.1, improving the hated UI and announcing new content.

Crytek is back with big plans for Hunt: Showdown 1896. The focus is on the Halloween event called Harvest of Ghosts, but the heavily criticized interface is finally being addressed and there is a completely new game mode.

We summarize the most important information from update 2.1 for you here.

UI adjustments

After the (actually very successful) upgrade to the 1896 version in August with a new map, lots of fresh content and an engine upgrade, there was an increase in criticism of the new interface of the shooter.

The revised menus were so poorly received that even the Steam reviews went down! Crytek promptly promised to make improvements, but nothing has happened so far. Now, Design Director Dennis Schwarz is finally showing the first updates for the user interface:

  • Equipment purchase has been improved and now shows the options in the store directly next to the selected loadout for a better overview.
  • Hunter Select now defaults to Grid View, giving you a full roster at a glance.
  • New hotkeys in Hunter Select now lead directly to the Recruit menu, reducing the number of menu clicks.

On X (formerly Twitter), fans are responding positively to the changes. The user QuickdrawQuin writes : The grid view should have been the default from the start. I’m happy about it anyway. I also find the new hotkeys useful.

Harvest of Ghosts: New Event

From October 16 to November 25, a new event will take place. In addition to new creepy skins, the pact system is returning with improved perks.

New Darksight powers stand out in particular – for example, with the right upgrades, you can see nearby shots and explosions or locate bleeding and burning opponents. And of course there’s a Battle Pass again.

You can find all the details in the video:

New weapons

As usual, the event will also expand your arsenal. The following new weapons and items have been announced:

  • Maynard Sniper (scoped, single-shot rifle)
  • Auto-4 Shorty (shortened version of the semi-automatic Crown & King)
  • Rival 87 Mace (short variant of the Rival with melee attachment)
  • Centennial Pointman (short version of the Centennial with scope)
  • Bomb Launcher (compact version of the Bomb Lance)
  • Revive Bolt (ammunition for one-handed crossbow for reviving at a distance)
  • Dark Dynamite Satchel (booby trap that can be detonated using the darksight)

New mode: Bounty Clash

The experimental new game mode Bounty Clash compresses the slow Hunt matches down to 15 minutes and only a single map location, putting the focus on fast action. Here’s a taste:

There is no boss to slay, instead the Banish begins immediately. 12 players can compete with their normal Hunter roster.

Bounty Clash is playable on the following dates:

October 16-20
October 25-27
November 1-3
November 8-10
November 15-17
November 22-24

During Harvest of Ghosts, Crytek will also activate some of the temporarily disabled times of day. In addition, there will be several bug fixes and performance improvements. What do you think of Hunt 2.1 and the Halloween event? Let us know in the comments below!
