What does the future hold for Hunt Showdown? Crytek reveals plans for the hit shooter, including a new map
After Hunt Showdown hit a new player high in the summer of 2023, the developers are looking to the future. And it has a lot in store!
What exactly is in store for the exceptional shooter in 2024 and when will the new map finally be released? In the (Roadmap-Video) General Manager David Fifield finally reveals more.
Here are his key points summarized in three minutes:
Table of Contents
Server update
Crytek is changing the server structure to a decentralized system for Hunt in early 2024. Fifield explains they hope this will reduce lag and hiccup effects in the game and menus.
Rubberbanding and trades (situations in which two players kill each other at the same time) in particular are to be significantly reduced. In addition, updates are then completely without server downtime possible.
New Map
A new large open-world map for Hunt will be released in spring 2024. This will make it the fourth map in the game and is intended to represent a new biome – that is, to come along with different vegetation and terrain.
The setting is still a secret, and Crytek plans to reveal details about the map in late 2023 and early 2024. But one thing is for sure: The map is supposed to demonstrate the strengths of the new CryEngine version!
Engine Upgrade
To coincide with the new map, Hunt will be moving to CryEngine 5.11. This will be a drastic move for the shooter, affecting numerous graphics and gameplay mechanics. Fans speculate that better weather effects or new terrain, such as snow or desert sand, could be added.
Furthermore, features like DirectX 12, FSR 2.1.2 and HDR will be integrated. On PC this will increase the system requirements You will then need at least:
for a resolution of 1080p.
- Intel CPU 7th generation 7700 or Ryzen 5 2600
- GTX 1650 Super or AMD RX 5500 XT (4 GB VRAM)
NextGen move
For the consoles, the engine change means: The PS4 and Xbox One versions have finally had their day!
Simultaneously with the new map, Hunt will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles and around April 2024 the old version will be shut down and will no longer be playable.
However, those who switch may take their account with them, including all unlocks, skins and progress, to the new console for free.
Interface Upgrade
According to David Fifield, in spring 2024 the UI of Hunt will be overhauledto increase readability and usability.
All of the game’s on-screen displays are said to be affected. Especially the nested menu has been a big criticism from fans for years.
New Prestige
At the turn of the year, Crytek wants to rebuild Hunt’s Prestige system. This means the reset when reaching the maximum level. To make the new grind process more pleasant for example, certain weapon categories will be unlocked earlier.
In addition, new prestige rewards are planned as an additional incentive – especially in the endgame area from prestige 100 and above. This is obviously to provide more long-term motivation for veterans.
More key points:
- Voice chat is adjusted and works even when players are down
- The number of Hunter slots per account will be increased to 75
- Traits will be revised and partly merged
- Matchmaking will be revised and MMR will be stabilized
2024So Hunt seems to want to go on a major offensive, especially in terms of technology, while also improving convenience
